    Better be careful.
Some companies might consider that a preventable accident.

They are about 100 dollars for my timpte hopper. Not something you just want to grab a hold of with all your strength and twist in two when your having to buy it

If it broke because it rusted out from the inside, that is easily disputed if the company has a means in place to do that.

in the future work smarter not harder

since most tractors now have air bags, drop them all the way and see if you can get the frame rails underneath the front edge of the trailer. if you can, lift the trailer by re-inflating the bags. crank down the gear. dump the bags, put some wood on the rails that will fit snugly under the trailer and inflate again. crank down the gear. repeat as many times as necessary until you can get the back edges of the 5th wheel under and then go for it. ;)

on a new trailer, usually the bolt breaks first. They only use cheap bolts from the factory. Company shops usually use the grade 8 bolts to prevent he-man drivers like yourself from snapping it off again and hurting themselves. Grade 8 bolts are cheaper than workers comp claims.

But if worst comes to worst you can turn both the gear and traps on your timpte with a socket and ratchet if worst comes to worst. I carry a 24" adjustable wrench in my side box just in case a crank handle walks off or breaks on my cornchoker. I miss a timpte friend just ordered a 48x96x66 timpte triple all steel weight is 10500 he's lighter than my 50x96x76 with singles and alum upper coupler and sub. Sad day it was also about 10k cheaper than a base model cornhusker.

Crank handles break often I've broke a couple over the past 2 years but that was on junk trailers, and I also drop and hook between 50 and 60 times a week in the winter. But I've never managed to break one in the low gear. Something just doesn't seem to add up all the dog food I haul in the winter weighs in around 45-48k in the wagon tandems always slid all the way back even with the junk gear on the trailers I can still get the trailer to move before snapping the handle off.

2 times I've broke 1 were due to gear being frozen to the ground.

Probably a Jost landing gear. If we have trouble with landing gear or crank handles it is usually trailers equipped with Jost. And they are hard to crank even when they aren't broke.
