What i don't get is why anyone looking for a job would bother with some third party recruiting company. Every carrier had their own in house hr/recruiting department. Why go through you when i can call them direct?

Could be a job placement, temp agency type deal. Some companies don't post job opening online

Yep, that's a fair point. Filling them out take to long and are frustrating, HOWEVER...I'm under the impression that drivers can pretty much do one application and get the job. Am I wrong in that? It's less frustrating if you have a high likelihood of getting the job.

Fair point, but if we're on the phone...is there any reason not to?

I won't talk to a recruiter over the phone, I would rather use email. My experience has been some are not what I would call very forthcoming with the details, or make promises you know they can't deliver on.

Understood, I'm definitely getting that. However, I'm a third party recruiter, so it's my job to get you talking with the carrier recruiter. What can I do to make sure I don't get shut out because of that perception. Also, you said email. Would you respond by text if a recruiter contacted you that way?

That requires someone to be a skilled driver with a good work ethic. Not all drivers are like this and not all have the fit for particular divisions within this industry (i.e. someone who pulls a van may not do well pulling a flatdeck).

And there is no "driver shortage" right now. The freight market is in the crapper and many carriers (the one I work for included) are severely cutting back on their hiring (we lost a couple drivers over the past few months, so they are replacing them now, but there is a freeze after that number is reached).

The problem isn't a lack of warm bums to fill the seats, it's a lack of professional drivers willing to take on the responsibilities of the lifestyle.

Ok fair point, I haven't gotten that far yet, I can't get folks to pull the trigger on an application. Do you think it's just a matter of sifting through a lot of unprofessional folks to get to the professional ones?

This is coming from my father who stayed with a company that treated him like ####, insinuated that he run dual logs, and when he refused they cut his runs.

His concern was despite his loyalty to the company (13 years), he was worried about moving to another carrier due to the possibility of being pushed to the bottom of the pack because he's the "new guy". Yeah he was with a company that had some serious faults, but assuming he did what was asked, he always made a solid check. Even got himself up to 1.75 million accident free miles before he left. However he was always stressed about getting slammed by a dot chip for log violations. I know today that chance is seldom, but it's the fact that some guys just don't want to start over with a new company.

    cptr13 Thanks this.

Only one i can think of is not wanting my info sent out to every tom dick and Harry company who will then call me twice a week for the next twenty years.

Basically I wouldn't trust ya not to sell my contact info.
