Take a look at the free Android/iPhone app, "KeepTrucking". It allows full editing of all four lines (it doesn't have an off-duty driving line, as far as I can tell), and it claims to be DoT ELD-compliant. It does not measure your movement, so it won't put you on the drive line, on it's own, but it does use your GPS to figure out what city you are close to, for log purposes, so you don't have to. (You can override that, too.) It basically has all of the advantages of a paper log, with many of the conveniences of an ELD - and it costs nothing and displays no ads. You can print out your logs and vehicle inspection to paper or a .pdf file, and email them.
I use it extensively.

Fatmando Thanks this.

I did think that was it, however. I did wonder how they paid for the server/s to maintain log records, though... -
You guys over think this, it is a device that replaced paper and it is just another tool. I can't understand I have had four complaints about ELD since they've become mandatory by the company but the drivers learned how to use them and actually make more money now than they did in the past, dispatch and agents can now see their hours and they can refuse without the BS involved.

I never had a problem that involved me violating my hos. If the customer doesn't allow overnight stay, then I'll get there early.
6 years driving and I never wish I had paper logs to solve my problem.
Remember your "tweaking" on paper is because legally you couldn't do it.
So
That
Is
HOS
problem -
I am kind of happy about the ELD mandate. People will think thrice before booking buck a mile loads with $500 fine for late delivery on a $300 load LMAO...
peterd Thanks this. -
I fought and dreaded them for many years. But finally was forced onto them and got on a sensibly profiled omnitracs system about 4 years ago and would prefer never to do paper logs again. For where I work and doing 48 OTR, they're fine. Once in a while they can be a problem but nothing that's a real problem to deal with one way or another.

Ive been inspected by DOT several times.
One time I was asked for my logs and after i told them im on e log they said they wont need to see it.
Other couple of times they just checked my 1/2 hr break and 10hr break to make sure i had thosr breaks and thats it.
I would suggest to have neat/clean truck and chances are great that they wont bother you. -
The ELD I don't think I would mind so much as now being forced to take the 30. That is really going to screw us in the LTL sector

SoDel and Dave_in_AZ Thank this.
