Well I decided to shut it down at a rest area south of manhattan, ks, on i70. Temps are mid twenties, and a misting rain is falling. With a steady 30 mph wind, it's freezing to the road and creating a lot of black ice. In the 60 or so miles west of Topeka, I think the average must be a wreck a mile, including some rather gruesome looking ones. For some reason, they've shut down the east bound lanes, but not the west bound lanes. All the same, I'm stopped here for at least eight hours. I wasn't going to make my delivery time crawling down the interstate a 30 mph, so there wasn't any reason to be out in it if I was going to have to take an unexpected ten before delivery anyway.
Drive safe out there.Zata40, gdyupgal, ncmickey and 1 other person Thank this. -

I hit the other end of this storm. I loaded return racks in a dry van over at the Fargo Case IH plant headed for St. Marys OH for Monday. They live loaded me, so I didn't get out of Fargo until almost 8 am. The 1st 100 mi. of MN was a little iffy, but was fine until I got south of Oakdale WI, then the clouds opened up. I had intended to get to Rochelle IL and do a restart, but it was getting too bad out for a dry van with 30k lbs...WI was trying, but it was snowing so hard they couldn't keep up...then I got to IL, where it looked like they were waiting for it to stop snowing before they started plowing. The roads hadn't been touched, so I will 34 at the LTD hide out in S.Beloit. They have me on a reload out of Grand Rapids to Fargo that picks up Monday afternoon, so I'll have all day Sunday and part of the day Monday to make this delivery.
Feels weird doing my walk around in a dry van...I keep looking up as I pass the front of the trailer to check my temps...and my reefer unit is gone...oh yeah, it's a van
...maybe this is a sign, and I am being transitioned back into a dry van driver for my next job...hmmmmmmmm

I made a run for Ashley that no one else wanted to do from Coon Rapids to Melrose Park Ill on Thursday. Delivered at 1700... shut down for the night and then reloaded out of Joliet, Ill
Had a fork lift driver on his 1st day on the job. Loaded me real nose heavy. Didn't want to wait another 2-3 hrs for them to rework me so I jetted. Plus I thought all the scales would be closed...
Left Joliet around 1300...The snow started around Rochelle, Ill. Full on snow storm by South Beloit, Wisconsin has their snow clearing act together. Roads were ok all the way to Minnesota. Not great but passable. Minnesota not so much but they were trying.
Arrived at the Coon Rapids Yard around 2300.
2nd snow storm this week I hit. Was in one earlier this week that came across the I70 corridor in Indiana and Ohio...
The temp in Minnesota is suppose to be -22 tonight with a potential wind chill of -45
Nice
Have a preload sitting in Gaylord I'll go pick up today that is a 4 stopper to NC... will be home early for ChristmasLast edited: Dec 17, 2016
