DITTO! But my '06 CAT powered Pete isn't gonna last forever!! I refuse to drive those phangdangled "automatics" . . . or associate with the MANIACS who drive 'em!! They may get 7-8mpg OTR but local? Racing 4-wheelers?? Lucky if they get 4-5!

You would think as important as trucking is to fulfill all the needs we do that there should be a ton of lobbyists.

There are, paid for by the ATA. And Mega Carriers.

On the other hand, if those complaining about OOIDA not being very successful would step up and join it would make a difference. Lobbyists don't come cheap these days. The company I work for belongs to an association of the same type of companies and we have a paid lobbyist. He gets in doors we otherwise would not even see.

    Joetro and G13Tomcat Thank this.

That is what I was getting at filling the right pockets so the right people would go above and beyond.

What's sad is the main reason of it getting it passed was because of a handful of companies.

    DTP and Joetro Thank this.

Any data on crashes due to automatics? You are on the road every day with plenty.

If they implemented the ELD's and actually gathered realtime data from them without anyone having a fear of reprisals for speeding, you could get data from every truck on the road with one, put it in a bigdata system and be able to run an analysis on the data. Without accurate data those writing the reports can slant it anyway they want it. Same with HOS, it has always been so and so looked at a mega, and found x,y, and z. The industry as a whole would be better served if they used hard data from a larger sampling.
I will bet the megas will fight using a wide spectrum of data, they want to slant it their way.

Sorry for those who think this is important but it isn't.

The important issues have yet to be addressed by the OOIDA, and as a life member I told them I want my money back if they keep pursuing these small insignificant issues and not tackle the ones that matter.

Right now to me it is CARB and California telling me and others that in order to access their markets, I have to purchase special equipment to drive on federally funded roads, they have no right to do so. I read the reasons behind the technical issues with the last case and I was pissed at OOIDA for their obvious mistake and the issue of not aggressively pursuing it but using resources to find solutions for other issues.

This is the one that actually effects all of us, mainly because if we don't have one central authority that we are regulated under, then states like Colorado and New York and even Ohio all can demand the same thing from us, to be specially equipped to run on the federally funded highway system. The feds control this through the court cases under the commerce clause which is one of their very few obligations under the constitution and it is there for US to access the markets in ALL states equally, not piecemeal or with permission.

SO ELDs are just not important enough, CARB is.

Joetro, TAfool, peterd and 4 others Thank this.
