I called the shop to schedule my camera installation and they told me NO! Their guidance right now is 16s,17s and 18s only. No 2015s... for now.

Im guessing we'll be assigned different trucks soon. I sure am gonna miss my manual. *sad face*

Hmmm.... theyre giving me a 2015 because I requested a stick so I can get better with a manual. Was told that it will be short lived more than likely since theyre phasing out the 2015s shortly. I hope they put a camera in my truck. Id rather have one than not for my own protection.

Then ill have to learn an automatic. I think an auto would make some things easier, but then when bumping docks sounds like a pain!

I hear ya! My 2015 truck has been so good to me. I really don't want to let it go. I wish I could keep using it.

I just wonder if i'm in line for one of these fancy new 2019's I've been hearing about. :)

We have outward facing cameras....really no big deal at my company. They have a 3rd party review the ones that triggered an event. But drivers that were involved in an accident (not at fault) got cleared, and the offending party doing the hitting (then blaming the truck) was not only held accountable for the damages, but legal fees as well. It's easier to get a judgement in cases like that when you prove they lied

I could see micromanaging being a concern but if they give you a 3 cent bonus for doing something we should already be doing... im game, thats darn close to hazmat pay around the clock. Im all about extra $$$. SHOW ME THE MONEY!!

The only concern I have is passing trucks that are just barely going slower than us. Like if they’re going 62.5 or 62.

I don’t know about you guys, but I put the pedal to the medal and when my alarm starts beeping I get over to pass them. If you get over earlier, it pisses everyone off, cars start zig-zagging between the trucks and it takes forever to pass. Then people talk #### on the cb, trucks behind you start flashing you, you hold up traffic.

Well, with the cameras we can’t get close to pass (close=1.2 seconds...I’m not talking about tailgating like some drivers do). They’ll call you for that. It’s following too close, you see. There goes your bonus. At least part of it.

I know it’s only a matter of time before they start calling me for that... whenever I get a camera. If I could temporarily go faster, then I would gladly get over much sooner to pass. It feels so naturally wrong to get over 2 truck lengths behind a truck that is barely, annoyingly going 1 mph slower than you. Most drivers don’t have the common courtesy to slow down a little so you can pass and get out of everyone’s way. It takes forever to pass some trucks. Even trucks will try to zig zag through if I do that.

I totally agree the .03 bonus makes up for this one little complaint I have about how this system works. I’ll just have to adjust to it. But I think it creates an unsafe situation when cars whip and zigzag around us when we don’t have the speed to get around someone quickly.

“Just lower your speed and stay behind them.” Spoken like a true cubicle warrior. Just type on your keyboard 10 fewer words per minute.

But imagine a hazmat load from Ohio to Oregon @ .58 cents per mile! Yes please!

If you keep the cb off you cant hear them talk smack lol. You might have to plan your pass when you see a big break in the left lane.

Another aspect... if you run 2 miles slower an hour, on 10 hours of driving, thats only 20 mile difference. At 50cpm thats a $10 loss. If you run 620 miles at 50cpm thats $310, if you run 600 at 53cpm, youre at $318.

Of course these are just numbers on paper and what happens in reality might be different. Food for thought maybe.

It’s the other stuff coming with it that’s the problem. Outward camera I’m not worried about.

Yeah, the rolliver trigger will activate the camera but the metrics are loaded in the ECM. With air ride tractors/trailers and a high load, it wouldn't take much to activate it. The Cascadia I had with Interstate had the rollover deal and would actually brake the truck to slow it. Pretty much, if you're already in a curve and have to brake, it's going to trigger. Friendly reminder...in most places, the ramp speed limits are for passenger vehicles unless there's a truck speed sign on it. As far as the micro-managing goes, all this safety stuff is what's been asked for by NTSB and FHTSB and insurance. We're a starter company so there's going to be even more stuff on us. It's not going to change...we just gotta roll with it. iDC would actually have videos from trucks involved in wrecks or triggering the cams (with no driver or truck ID) to show what was happening and how these triggers were set off. We gotta keep our distance and be patient. It's only a dashcam...one other camera along with the hundreds that are around us every day. And, like Zata says, it could even help in the event if an accident involving other vehicles to prove who's at fault. Of course, the other caveat is just because the truck might not be at fault doesn't mean it's not a preventable...that's a whole nother can of worms.
