So, about the *cough* "safety" *cough* bonus. It's always gotten under my skin just a tad that it's called a safety bonus. In truth, it has very little to do with safety. Sure, you can break it down and say that a driver must be safe within the quarter to get the bonus, but honestly it should be called a performance bonus. Was it Macho who said he missed a bonus one quarter by a few hundred miles? Yea, that happened to me a few quarters ago. Missed it by 175 miles. Didn't get squat. 29825 safely driven miles in a quarter and nothing. So no, it's not a safety bonus. And since I'm on a roll...I'm a little over 3 years of cumulative driving time at JCT, and have received exactly 1 safety bonus. Not one ticket at JCT. No accidents. No late loads. No scratched bumpers or truck in the ditch. And one safety bonus to show for it.

To be fair, I realize JCT isn't the only outfit that calls a performance bonus a safety bonus. It just irritates me that we get a QC message that says "you need to run more miles if you want the cash!"

As someone who has a life outside trucking. Family, friends, fishing...I enjoy my time off. In my opinion, all drivers should be rewarded for safe driving, no matter how little or how many miles they run. Until that happens, it's a performance bonus.

I talked with a long time JCT driver who said he runs 58 miles per hour and captures back at least $0.08 per mile so he doesn't need to run faster to get the $0.02

That almost sounds like steel tiger.

I've been tempted to drop my speed but for some reason I seem to be getting better mileage on paper at 68 versus 64. It probably has to do with 68 allowing the ecoast to roll out farther than it would at 64..

I start a lot of trips resolved to slowing down and getting better fuel mileage.

    Then I remember who I'm dealing with..o_O

    Wow crazy memory.
The year I graduated from high school Bill Bates said.-

We will never make a 32-bit operating system.

@MachoCyclone I need to thump you in head. :mwink:

My wife shops on Wish and I have resisted the urge to go to that website/app but the link you posted made it too tempting. I clicked on it and spent $50 or so. There are some good deals on there.
