having done a little of everything.
Container is way down the list. Can guys are down there with rock haulers on the crap list.
It's all by the load so they are always trying to get one more Can moved, no maint, no inspections, no care. Just move that can. And that's on the tractors. Most of the chassis's are way worse. Some are unbelievably bad.
And of course, the yards. Some yards are quick and have a clue. But rail yards? all union, draw your own conclusion. I"ve heard the ports are way worse. And of course, paid by the load, so if it takes 2 hours to get your Can down and on a chassis. Yeah, your time is free.
and of course, they are a black box. Weight, distribution of load, etc. who knows. You see an inordinate amount of container trailers flipped. My guess is because all the weight is on one side and of course you can't see. And notorious for being way overweight.
i'd be very cautious.

Haha my barn is a joke sometimes... they tried to send me to all places for a swap yesterday, but no empty van or a pup could be found in the yard. Then 2 days before few drivers including me had to wait for road drivers to come back from the run so we could take their tractors. This #### is getting ridiculous... managment doesn't seem to do anything about it either. I talked to few senior drivers and they said it was never this bad before. Other ltl carriers have rental trailers and tractors so I don't why we can't... Purple promise my ###

So my place is trying to hire two new drivers, and we interviewed one yesterday well...
Guess what the people up top forgot.
When you hire a driver he kinda needs a truck...
We're insanly swamped. I've been clocking out 6-7pm all week. 12 city drivers 480 bills given to us on a wensday. We even had drivers from our Miami terminal to help us and we're still swamped.road_runner Thanks this. -
Put in for an open road driver spot at my barn. That 10am start time and being forced on the dock every day after my run downtown got old real fast. 9 PM start time and average end time between 7 and 9am means I can have breakfast and dinner with my family and still be able to get some things done during the week. Haven't seen much of them during the week since I started running city P&D.

I promptly and clearly explained to her that her seven am was the seven pm for those of us on the night shift, that I had read her name tag and store number, and that if she didn't stow her attitude post haste, I'd be on the phone to corporate so fast she'd think Einstein was wrong about the speed of light.
I got my beer.road_runner, misterG, Bob Dobalina and 2 others Thank this.
