Yes you still have the cushion. The only thing you have to be careful of is turning the truck off and on won't lock a status either. I once lost almost 30 minutes at a Walmart DC that way. generally if I want to lock a status before driving I switch to on duty right when I take off.
They aren't ELD yet. It's just a change to the ability to manually click driveline. You can double check that by going to your certify tab, then hit the header button and if you look in the right column it says ELD-ID is AOBRD. It's the same in the 19s and 20s.

The fact the id says AORB is just a simple software switch on these new units. They do met the requirements for the ELD. The trucks running the older QC (the giant brick with a keyboard) doesn't met the ELD requirements as far as I'm aware. They will have to phase those out at some point.
There is one plus to the ELD mandate (and no I don't agree it should have been a mandate) is that is showing the flaws of the HOS on a massive scale that the government was able to ignore before. Now they can't and why they are looking at changes now.Last edited: Mar 27, 2019
drvrtech77 Thanks this. -
Move too quick in a truck stop at 9 hours 59 minutes and 59 seconds.... That's a blown 10 hour breakCannonballAA and MachoCyclone Thank this. -
That might explain why I see drivers racing through the truck stops, since they cannot manually change their time to Drive just before they hit the main road, rather than suffer that slow pace going through the truck stop as wasted drive time, they race as fast as they can through the truck stop to gain back some efficiency of time.
CannonballAA, Kamkor and MachoCyclone Thank this. -
As I figured....it will be an electronic switch to flip the elog from AOBRD to ELD. I was curious and shot Tracy an email asking about it. Here is her response:

How would y’all handle this? I have to be home by Wednesday for an important doctors appointment and I’m running low on medication. I picked up a load yesterday and was hoping to swap with the driver today that had a load for me going to my home state. Turns out that driver was on a different interstate and was not going to be able to meet me for the swap. Now the load I picked up yesterday is going to California the The exact opposite direction that I need to go. They told me to keep running on this load. How should I handle this. Part of me is angry because I told them from day one that I had to be home at a specific time and I reminded them two weeks and a week out. Now it’s only a few days from when I need to be home and I’m going to exact opposite direction I’m not sure how I feel about this. Rant over does anyone have an Arnold Palmer?

Previous driver side trailer needed shop because it had a bad air leak. Found it and fixed it. How did they not hear the leak coming from the glad hand? I could hear it from the driver seat with my window down. Anyway......popped in two new seals and the leak is gone like magic.
