So how bad was 2019?

2019 was on track for me to take home about the same as a company driver, but that changed in mid November when the truck started losing coolant.

This led to discovery of a cracked head and scored cylinder and liner, as well as a failing EGR cooler.

After a whole lot of crap centered around TruNorth's aftermarket warranty that I bought, the repairs cost me about 17k. The hotel cost me 3k. The lost income cost me way too much, but I can't give a clean number. My tax burden will also be dramatically reduced for the year, but I can't give a clean number for that yet, either.

I expect that my income after truck expenses will be around 45k due to the engine rebuild and new EGR cooler.

The one box failed with 300 miles on warranty earlier this year, so now have a new one-box and rebuilt engine in the truck, and hope to get through this coming year without much in the way of repairs beyond normal maintenance.

After 120k miles, the drives are down to about half their original tread, so I am hoping to get at least another 20k miles out of them before buying new ones. We shall see.

Lol, Na I am not sure what happened but I will take it. A little over 1400 cheaper for the same coverage. I had to do a double take!!!

I pay it upfront for the year instead of the payment plan, my booty always puckers up come renewal time. Even with no claims you never know what they will do with your rates from year to year.

 

My outbound loads have been from the same broker for nearly three years, and the rate has held steady. The broker I had been loading back to the house for decided to cut the rate back in September, and it may have been a blessing. I changed up a few things, and if I can get it fine tuned. I should be able to make the same or more on less miles,and time.

 

I can’t complain, my booked rates were steady all year with a good uptick in November and December. December would’ve been my best month of the year if I wasn’t taking so much time off. Will be interesting to see what 2020 holds.

 

Bad, very bad. Down 20% on overall avg per mile. Worst rates in 7 yrs. But not the worst I’ve seen. It hasn’t hurt tooooo bad. Lol

 

2019 was a good year for me, not as good as some years, but not a bad as some others.

How much coolant were you losing when you finally figured there was a problem? I only ask because when I bought my new T680 last year, I noticed small amounts of coolant gone every few weeks. No more than a gallon over a year. I mentioned it to the KW dealer and they said it was normal. Should I be worried?

 

if you have a bum head or head gasket you’ll be adding a gallon ever couple days or more.

 

Take a oil sample and send it off... Find out if its leaking internally or externally... Internally is worrisome...
