SSB, you KNOW FedEx Freight (FXF) (which Penguin is referring to) is the good, sensible part of FedEx. They are the company-owned trucks, no contractors or 1099 drivers.

I’ll fuel where I feel like it or you can keep it.
Pay me for screwing around looking for an “optimal” location or leave me alone.
Current outfit I’m with has a great policy. Bob doesn’t give a #### where you get fuel as long as you fuel up at the gate before you leave and don’t fill up 100 miles from his fuel barn.

Then get your own truck..fuel prices are exponentially higher than just few months ago and every penny counts.

Careful, that WalMart driver who hit Tracy Morgan was commuting like that. He got hired on in New Jersey and lived around Atlanta. When he hit him he hadn’t slept in 28 hours.

Every penny counts? Every minute of me, or even you, wasting time doing unproductive additional work to save the company a couple dollars also counts!

Company, daycabs, yep...good, sensible, you're kidding right? Until Amazon Prime started hauling their own freight(via cheap contractors), the 3 most dangerous and discourteous companies on the road were bulk mail contractors, UPS and Fedex(both Ground and Freight). I have been nearly run off the road, tailgated and nearly killed in truckstop parking lots by those daycab wiggle wagons all because they have such tight schedule they have to save every second in order to get to their assigned destination on time so they don't get written up.... And they got more wreckless after they turned their company trucks down to 65. Now, 5' is an acceptable distance to change lanes after passing someone going 64 just so they can get to the next exit first. You see fewer daycabs in major or fatality wrecks since they slowed them down, but the nickname Fed-wrecks still applies as much as Swift's nickname Best in Crash does.

I don't have to get my own truck to negotiate my own rates and I'm not doing extra work for free.

Finally headed home. After finally getting unloaded in Plainfield, I had just enough time to get to our Indy terminal for the night, then to Anderson to pick up a trailer load of Nestle Quik going to VA, now I am picking up in Mt. Crawford, VA going to Jacksonville for a Wed. delivery, then home for 7 days. When my A/M called me with this 2 load plan to get me home, he apologized for getting me home Weds instead of Mother's Day weekend...I told him apologizing wasn't necessary because if it wasn't for this POS truck, his 1st plan for getting me home last weekend would have gone right and I would be sitting at home already. When I asked if the 4 day limit still applied in this case, and did I need to contact Deland about authorizing more, his response was ''are you kidding, by the time you get home you'll be out 60 days, how much time are you wanting off, so I can set it up?" I said just a week...he replied "is that it?". Yep, any more than that and it'll be tough for me to leave. So, I'll get home Wed afternoon, then take Thur thru next Weds off.
