B & L TRUCKING
WINESBURG, OH
Beware of the tablet they give you, they say
there are no inward facing camara's, which is true. What they dont tell you is the microphone
is on. Yes it is. If you open the settings on the tablet, you will see as plain as day the the mike setting is switched to the on position. Pretty sleezy if you ask me. The mike goes right to the Safety departments computer and all can here your conversations, comments about the company and anything else you say in the truck. Again, sleezy, sneeky and just plain #$@#&! up. Anyone else using a tablet like Samsara, check your sound settings....

I would probably be a disappointment to listen to. Mostly my rendition of Johnny Cash and Hank Williams's greatest hits sung at the top of my lungs, and a medley of gross body noises.

That is actually illegal in some states without a notice somewhere on the outside of the truck stating that there is a sound recording device. Its covered under federal wiretapping laws...
Audio Surveillance Laws by State:Everything You Need to Know
Since the company is based in Ohio :Ohio law (Ohio Rev. Code Ann. 2933.52(B)(4)) says it is not a crime to record or intercept if one person involved in the conversation gives consent.
So if you do NOT GIVE CONSENT, then it is against the law for them to record you within the state of Ohio (unless of course there is another person there and they gave THEIR consent)...
Now they may have actually had a "consent form" burried in the mounds of paper work they give you when you first started working there and signed it without realizing what it was that you signed...
Personally, I would report them. You would be protected under the federal whistleblower laws.Last edited: Feb 5, 2022

How does this actually work? Do they listen in on all trucks at all times? Or do they pick a certain truck and just listen all day?
Seems like a waste of time to be listening all day for one or two short comments about the company or a short phone conversation. -
Simply put a piece of tape over the microphone or find another job.
The IVG from Omnitracs has a microphone as well. I own it and it’s only purpose is to listen for certain commands. Pertaining to reading msgs and such. But since I don send myself load msg’s on it. They all have microphones I am sure.JoeyJunk and Aamcotrans Thank this. -
They listen to all the malcontents. All of their facilities are secretly monitored. Once they hear someone complaining, they start listening to that person’s truck. Then, the next thing you know, the driver is being hauled into the office and given a good stern talking to at the least, or fired if they heard something real egregious like the driver saying something like “I’d like to fart right into the terminal manager’s mouth!”. I mean, you gotta admit, that’s a pretty terrible thing to say.snowlauncher, Saltyoldone, TB John and 3 others Thank this.
