    Hey everyone!

I am considering becoming a driver but I am a single guy with a dog. Are there companies that allow me to bring a pet along for the ride with me? Along with not paying for boarding costs for the pup it would be nice to have a companion. Is this a common practice?

About 20-40% of trucking companies allow you to being a pet. Some of them require deposits, some deposits are non-refundable ($100-500). Some only allow pets under a certain weight (25lbs, 50lbs). I don't know of any companies that allow you to bring a pet when you first start at the company and are riding with a trainer. Sometimes that period can be 2 months. A few companies won't allow you to bring your pet until you have 30,60,90 days of incident free driving at the company, excluding the time riding with a trainer. A pet is a great companion for trucking.

Don't take anyone's word for what the company pet policy is. Talk to the trucking company and talk to someone in the Safety Dept. The recruiters don't know and will tell you the answer they think you want to hear. NEVER consider sneaking a pet to ride along if the company doesn't allow it. It is a firing offense, like picking up hitchhikers.

    Most companies allow a pet.
Some have no breed or weight restrictions and some do.
You'll have to leave the pet behind until you complete the training period.

You can certainly bring your hound with ya to Melton Truck Lines. The only requirement is the little darling must be 90 pounds or less.

They also have FREE on site gym (with a personal trainer) medical and dental clinic and a delicious cafeteria. I really think you’d be doing yourself a solid by signing up with Melton Truck Lines today!

p.s. And, on top of your driving pay, they’ll pay ya a $100 a load for tarping. That alone would likely cover ALL of annual costs feeding and maintaining the beast.

Where is your location; state and nearest city/town?
We'll help you find a decent company to get started with.
Do you want a private cdl school or a trucking company cdl school?

Companies who don’t allow intelligent life forms aren’t any good.

It is a public health hazard.

More companies than not will allow you to bring a dog on the truck. I would say it’s probably around 75% of trucking companies now allow you to bring a dog.
