An old man's career goes flat, Snackbar moves to open deck

So they're not putting the heavier front axle under there, or are they heavier, but just didn't get the higher rated tires put on them yet?

 

Plugged all the zigs and zags on my routing into the Nag-a-gator and my loaded miles went from 853 to over 1200 miles. Wow, 50% more miles because they didn't send the lower deck RGN.

And when I went to download all my permits to print them out, my VA permit won't pull up, so I sent permits a message. Since I can't go down the WV turnpike on the weekend I have until Monday to get it, so no panic at this point

And, according to my high pole driver's email, he's a Marine, so his leg of the journey will be done right (at least that has been my experience with every retired Marine I have worked with, done right, done efficiently because they hate to waste time having to do it a 2nd time because they f'd it up the 1st time)

 

Day 1 back on the road with this OD load. All went better than expected with the exception of maneuvering thru Lima. The route on Google Maps looked fine, but they need to trim their #### trees. Some had been trimmed by the 53' box trailers except there were some with large limbs not just branches to work around. Thankfully I have an excellent high pole escort that gave me ample warning so I could weave around these trees like I was drunk. He made pulling this overheight load a breeze. With all the construction in MI and the back road travels in OH, neither one of us thought we'd get anywhere near Columbus, but I pulled into the Hebron TA with almost enough time to make it to the WV border...but since parking is scarce in that part of the world for even a legal load, so I decided to park while there was a place, and it was early enough for him to get a hotel room. I didn't want to risk pushing it since I don't pick up my next pilot car until tomorrow who will be with me until the NC/SC border, and the new guy is a retired Ohio Trooper who use to do escorting OD loads that required a police escort, so he knows how to read and follow the permits. And of course he was never informed that my load can't go down the WV pike until sunrise on Monday, so I guess he gets a mini paid vacation.

 

Yeah, I think Travis might not approve that reimbursement.

 

@mitrucker, to answer that accidental post on the FCC thread..The route they used to get me out of Michigan with this 14'8” load...the shipper was located in Chesterfield north of Detroit. They ran us down I-94 to I-696 to I-96 to I-69 down to IN
