    If most companies went to hourly pay, they would be out of business in a few years because of all the lazy arse drivers milking the clock like they were dairy farmers and the time clock was their only cow.

    Not being paid to go home is wrong, but not being paid for every mile you drive doesn't piss you off? You probably lose more of line 3 because, while they don't force route you, they give you specific fuel stops to fuel at so you basically have to go their route, but are still paid what the computer says the miles are. If you want actual miles paid you have to work for smaller outfits or companies like Poly who pay hub miles so the OOR miles to home are included with a load. Schneider might have paid you for hometime miles, but there must have been something there that made you leave. There had to be some sacrifice in pay that made up for the extra they paid for hometime miles. It could be worse, FCC could make you park their truck at a company facility and you have to use your personal vehicle to go home like companies like Averitt do.

    Just because you're on line 3 doesn't mean you're working buddy. I understand the PC thing if you weren't taking a restart ( which you certainly would be in that case) or didn't have hours to get home. Otherwise, it does matter unless you're paying for fuel and tires, but they are! Why is the world would they do that and pay you to go home? That's bad business.

    I would agree that I would be pissed off if I wasn't paid for every mile. But the reality is most of my OOR miles are because I chose to take a longer route. If I don't like where the fuel solution route is going, all it takes is a simple Qualcomm message or phone call to get that changed.

    I left Schneider because they put me on a local dedicated account while still paying me as OTR. 1,800-2,000 miles a week at .38 cpm is not what I call a decent living.

    There's also plenty of instances where I wouldn't want to take the truck to the house.

    Maybe I'm just used to other industries. Walmart required you to be clocked in before starting any work, so you could get paid to do it. You could actually be fired for not doing so. And Schneider paid those miles, so I assumed everyone did.

    And it's not the company forcing line 3 use. Even though there is no specific distance limit on PC use, most DOT officers would question a long distance bobtail to the house, so most companies that allow PC insist you can't use it to bobtail home over a certain distance...unless the driver is dedicated and exclusively starts and ends their trips at a specific location every time. Being an irregular route company, allowing PC for bobtailing home, then requiring line 3 to bobtail to an empty at a different location before heading to pu a load, the PC part could be considered advancing the load by some DOT officers, so it is simpler for a company to require all moves to/from home to be on duty than fighting the possible citation.

    Trucking is a whole different ballgame brother, very few other industries you can compare it to. In fact one of the biggest differences that most new drivers struggle with is, this isn't just a job or an industry, it's a completely different lifestyle!.. You'll save yourself a lot of headaches if you concern yourself with the bottom line on your weekly settlement and weather or not that's where it needs to be, if it is that's all that matters.

    No company is perfect but this is the best I've found. To be honest there's only two things I'd like to see changed here #1 the detention pay structure. I never agreed with the driver having to wait for the customer to pay the company before you can receive detention pay, ( Fortunately this doesn't happen often here) but when it does you never know how long it's gonna take to get paid. #2. Holiday pay of some kind. Now this one I'm sure we contractor's wouldn't get, but I think company drivers should, if for no other reason to keep up with the competition to attract good drivers. Most companies out there now offer some sort of paid holidays along with vacation. I don't think they should pay it if you're home, but if you stay out on a major holiday, a bonus is deserved.... again those are not major issues, just shows how good we have it, I've been here almost 3 years and that's all I got to nitpick.
