Ya, that’s what my GPS was showing going to Shell Rock… 50-60 miles further but 14h5m vs 13h55m so I just ran up I35. I didn’t have to fuel until Des Moines, Iowa anyway.

Ya, was kind of thinking it would be a wash for fuel since the truck is pulling a load for 14 hours either way. Plus the stop/starts vs smooth rolling.

I don’t get to TX very often so it was a nice change of pace, even if I wasn’t sure I was going to find parking.

It looks like my total bill will be over $10k. It isn’t for the faint of heart or unprepared. Luckily I have the money in my maintenance account to cover it, and other funds available if needed.

Seems like every time mines over 10k, the truck decides it wants to break something not covered by warranty

Heater core, SAMM Module, $1,100 & $1,000 ea, oh, and almost $400 for a fog light when one burned out. 150k service wasn't cheap either, but I'm gonna keep the same maintenance program they had when it was a company truck. Better than replacing S--- on the side of the road

    #### it would take me probably a couple months to make that money, and that's before taxes.

    BigR Thanks this.

I thought briefly about hoping to O/O sometime but decided it just isn't worth all the stresses and headaches. I got into this industry because I love driving. Spending 5 figures on repairs takes the fun out of it for me.

I do rather well as a company driver for a private fleet. Enjoy my 5 day workweek with weekends off and don’t have to deal with the headaches of truck maintenance, parking, or any of the issues that most o/o or long OTR drivers have. I’ve watched several friends go broke as an o/o but didn’t have the business sense that running man and several others that post here have.

I’ve stayed leasing (buying in less than three weeks) for a modicum of flexibility, and for my purposes it worked out perfectly. Got to spend a lot of time with mom before she died last October.

But now it turns out I’ll be driving a paid off house September 8th. Mrs. 48 decided after less than three months that our reconciliation wasn’t going to work and she’d rather be with the guy she was seeing last year, so here I am!
