I’ve often wondered how crosswinds affected an empty trailer. Is it a pain to pull in crosswinds?

it depends on how high the winds actually are. Gusty winds require a lot more attention than if it’s relatively steady. Hills and other obstructions like silos and such are hazards too if the wind speed is high enough. I’ve had it that when i come out from behind a grain silo, a strong wind gust almost pushes me into oncoming traffic, even in my car.

As others have said though, slow down if you’re pulling an empty trailer in high winds. You’re basically pulling around a giant sail at that point. Though even a little bit of weight helps out a lot. If you’re pulling 45k through WY with high winds, you shouldn’t have much to worry about

I got pushed off the road one time in an empty straight grain truck. Went into the ditch and back up on the road. It took me a week to pry that seat out of my backside. I thought for sure it was going to lay over on its side. Same day we had a tornado hit Moberly, Mo. I think it was back in ‘94?
    Edit; it was 1995
