Every new drive has so many questions. And so the other day I was watching some videos on youtube and as usual, I love to see what J. Canell has on his channel. It is a great channel and he has thousands of videos.
And so I decided to share this one video with you guys, where he talks straight up with no BS about to be a Trucker. Just watch and learn.
How Much Money I'm Gonna Make? How about Home Time? etc, etc...

This feller is 95% correct. Invite him on here and make this a sticky for new drivers getting into this career
He is primarily talking about OTR. that is why I gave a 95% approval.
ETA: good video, a must watch for anyone in CDL school / with a new CDL. Straight to the facts.Last edited: Dec 14, 2013
Lux Prometheus, pattyj and blairandgretchen Thank this. -
He's a little melodramatic if you ask me, but to each their own.
You are not going to learn much from a video. The most it can do is either dissuade you from trying or it can inspire an interest. Until you get out here and do it, you will not know if it is for you. No other way around it. There is no shame if it is not for you and you can always return to the cubicle world, but if it is for you and the diesel gets in your blood, you will never go back.
I should also add, this is the easiest job I have ever had. Long hours to he sure, but most of it sitting on my ### watching the world go by.blairandgretchen, bowhunter3714, Lux Prometheus and 1 other person Thank this. -
If I'd seen this before I started I never would have.
Agreed, KMac - worst case scenario is I'm paid $7.50/hr to wait on freight, sleeping and watching TV in a paid motel.
I'm kinda getting tired of this doom and gloom , you gotta be tough blah blah. We get plenty of time off, home every 5 days or less, make 75k each, and could easily make over 100k each if we really wanted to run.
Air conditioned, comfortable, new trucks . . . it was a hard job without air ride and power steering back in the day - but for a job that doesn't even care if you went to high school - can you even argue it's even half as much work as this video portrays? -
As for the video, I don't know ... I seem to be on the fence with the comments. This is a big industry and I found out that being a driver for a company only allows you to see 3% of the trucking world.
KMac, UTurn1, Calregon and 1 other person Thank this. -
You guys disagree what he said ?
I'll go too bat and defend his comments. game on.
I am not joking. never met the dude. Fella is speaking to new folks. 7 years in. I'm still the new guy in the career. he makes sense. let the latter half 15 years + offer a better video.
great video for newbs including me. 7 years ain't crap. until you old folks make a better video. this is worthy enough. prove
me wrong.Last edited: Dec 14, 2013
