What kind of bills did you have before you entered trucking ?

Are you in the hiring area for Millis Transfer? You can pay your bills working there. You will need $500.00 to enter their program, but worth it.

What is your location?

 

If you need a job, go for the oil fields. Most will send you to school to get your CDL to run their equipment.

and whatever food and water I needed

And a work visa with about 4 months left on it . . .

I work um good under pressure.

 

The wife and I both went to a truck driving school. We went on the weekends while working our regular jobs during the week. Needed a vacation after doing that for 8 weeks straight, but that way we could maintain our bills and get cdl at same time.

 

There are cheaper alternatives to the CDL mill, or even company 'paid' training. If you train with Swift or some other company, you end up paying more over the long term in the form of extremely low pay for the first year or so.

Check into local community college programs. I paid less than $1000 for an 8 week daytime class to get my CDL through a community college. They also had a 4 month option that was evenings and weekends for those that couldn't quit their jobs to take the day class.

 

Road runner mention the oil fields,you make excellent money but you work a lot of hrs.General trucking is everything but consistant.One week you could have great miles and the next 2 weeks your checks could be below $300.00..Lets not forget the living on the road,you'll need to really be careful with your spending before it gets away from you, it can get costly.

 

Not to hijack the thread but what kind of money is in oilfield. And you say lots of hours. You mean just maxing out your 70 in 5 days?
