As some have posted, there are some, but they can't legally drive a manual...limits their employability greatly.

I had never heard of double clutch before driving school. I learned on a stick for cars, but nonsynchro gears was new to me
I went to a good one though that explained everything before they asked you to do it. They even drove first so we could watch what they were doing ask they explained it all.

It still doesn't help those that don't want to learn though.

Its so true it hurts. People in my class who only drove automatics had a much easier time adapting to the clutching than I did.

I have a question....do people still double-clutch outside testing for a CDL or doing a road test for an anal retentive company they are about to work for? I've been out here 22 years and have double-clutched 1 day...the day I took my CDL test. After that, I never did it again.

I was struggling with learning shifting a manual truck the whole time through cdl school never even drove a manual car before but the instructors kept telling me that im better kus most of people in my class had bad habits they had to break such as putting the clutch all the way to the floor when shifting

But im glad i learned because even if you do take your cdl test in an automatic truck and dont get the restriction on your license your still limiting yourself because you dont know how to drive manual alot companies still are going to have these type of trucks

I do it when the truck is new and the shift is hard to make because it's so tight. I'll shift anyway that makes it easier on me since I drive in town delivering gasoline. After all don't we float because it's easy on ourselves. I think some newer drivers think it makes a truck driver if you can float your shifts and I know all the old timers that I've been with will float because it's easier on their bodies.

My left leg would be wore out if I had to double clutch every shift.

I stopped at a local coffee stop for a quick hit and run.

Some lady: walked up to me and asked if my company was hiring, and if they had automatics.

    Me: Ummmmm NOOOOO!

Gashauler, he was driving Allison automatics for the Port Authority of NY NJ, the only manual trans equipment they had was small pickup trucks, all their big stuff was auto even in the 70's, and he is one of those know it all type of guys which made it even harder.

    MidwestResident and GasHauler Thank this.
