I do what you do Mad Dog....i.e.private carrier outbound and motor carrier inbound. Sounds like you are about to add ALOT of work to your daily routine. Not sure how many loads per week you are talking about but you need to find a backhaul for each one and you need to invoice them and collect the money. Might even have to buy two trucks because the back hauls take up as much time as the head hauls.
Whenever I have outsourced excess freight I always do like you say and ask the guy what he needs and I will choose one of the lower ones and call them back and give them their rate.
I think you should go for it because you need to know what it's like to be on the phone with a broker begging him for a inbound load when your customer HAS to have his load by a certain day and you cannot afford to wait for a good back haul any longer.
How much is your free time worth and will your core business suffer as a result?
O/O what are you charging per mile? Im getting crazy ranges and need some explaining?

And was inquiring about how to find loads with a new authority. Wonder what happened to the old one.

It seems brokers aren't paying well. Karma is a mother.
