I can make that with jb hunt pulling containers and be home everynight
spyder7723 and Bakari742 Thank this. -
I love the gross vs. take home argument. I average about $1500/week gross pay, but I contribute 15% of that to my 401(k). My company also allows us to send dollar amounts of our choice to different bank accounts (3 total), so I send $100 to a savings and $100 to a college fund for my daughters. That's $425 right off the top of my actual take home pay every week, therefore a guy making $1100 gross would technically bring home more than I would (providing he doesn't pay for Healthcare, I don't have a contribution for that).
Anyway, to the OP - sometimes a job isn't necessarily strictly about the money. You may end up somewhere that pays slightly more, but you won't be happy because of the equipment or running lanes or your dispatcher. My advice would be to weigh ALL options before moving to another employer. Don't be afraid to ask plenty of questions. -
Outdoorsman, Bakari742 and Chinatown Thank this.

I made $65K pulling hazmat/tankers coast to coast and loved the job. Many tanker drivers make much more, but I like long vacations overseas. The point is, I had job satisfaction, so the money wasn't everything; was willing to make less per year for the job satisfaction.
Didn't need much money on the road so gave my paychecks to the wife and kept just enough to eat reasonably. Find your niche in trucking and go for it; doesn't matter what other drivers want. A good fit for you may not be a good fit for another driver and visa-versa.10speed55, Outdoorsman, Bakari742 and 2 others Thank this. -
You can make money or you sit home and make no money.
Most everyone who has rolled a big truck knows this. I hate to be the rain on the parade. Make your money while the sun shines the spring through early winter and then go home for the holidays and chain season. -
Home for a reset on the weekends,
Bring home what 8-850 a week.
There's a whole lot off theses jobs.
Big difference between 1000 per week in your pocket
And 1000 gross per week.
One is a good gig,the other is about the same as everybody else.
We don't want to know what your gross is,we want to
Know what your putting in your pocket.KeepitMovin47 and Bakari742 Thank this. -
If you have a family, and kids... you're paying out the ### for insurance, but should be paying less in Federal taxes. If you live in a state that doesn't require state taxes, and I live in a state that requires both state and local taxes, how is any of that going to add up for another driver!?
Everyone has different expenses, different deductions, different insurance requirements, different taxes... if you know what the starting wage is... the GROSS then you can calculate your own net. I - for instance - don't pay for insurance, while other drivers in the company pay $200-300 per week. I also claim fewer deductions since my kids aren't dependants. That alone throws off my net by a couple hundred dollars, compared to other drivers getting the same pay.
The only thing that matters is the GROSS - you have to know what your taxes and deductions are to figure out what "your" net will be!! (((smh)))Swedish Chef, Pintlehook, Crusader66 and 2 others Thank this. -
This thread isn't about how much (more) one can make, doing something completely different than what I'm already doing... I can make $1200 gross if I want to handle freight.
Truth is, people like to talk about how much (more) they can make, doing this or that - but even 'that' might not be available to the masses, or 'just anybody'.
I know there are ways to make more money... but the question was and still is... is there a company that guarantees a salary over $1000 for 5.5 days (or as you said - be home daily) and be home at least on weekends?Crusader66 Thanks this. -
There's local home daily jobs here that have $1,100 weekly guarantee only in the winter. But it's flatbed work and 6 day work week. Driver I talk to made 96k last year.
If u like van stuff I say just stay where u are. Easy money.Crusader66 and Outdoorsman Thank this.
