Yah...plenty of horror stories about PTL on here----wish you would have found this site before you went with them.
My advice would be to find a way to stick it out the three months; then your opportunities will broaden considerably. Explain you situation, and this industry to your family and ask them to bare with you.
Beg for miles....and if that don't work, beg some more.

P.S.- You are NOT being discriminated against.

Van Wyk also has a terminal in Virginia, and Corporate terminal in Iowa. Not a lot of bad written and/or spoken about them.
Web site says 1 year experience OR train the right person.
With 9 months, it's worth a phone call...sounds like they are willing to work with ya.
Get started on a better life right now!

Oor beat me to it. While I didn't like Magnum as an experienced driver, they are a good company for those looking to get a good amount of experience and knowledge. They take drivers right out of driving school, so with some solo experience and your clean driving record, I would venture a guess that they would have no problem with hiring you. You might have to run with someone for a short period, but I think their training pay is as good or better than what your making now by yourself. If reefer isn't your thing, @Chinatown will be popping in here soon to offer other alternatives...@Chinatown is the trucking version of Wikipedia.

6 months recent, plus a clean record will be more than enough to be able to jump ship and get a better gig.

Remember this: You are never alone.

One squawk to a message board got you encouragement and suggestions from people you don't know and may never meet. You CAN do this. There are options you can take advantage of.

Keep doing your best and you will find something better. It is out there and you CAN get it.

BigBob410, Siinman, Crusader66 and 2 others Thank this.
