The nerves will always be there, they are unavoidable, you just have to take a deep breath and overcome it.

Well I'm going to be called the cave woman. I use an actual Rand McNally Motor Carrier Map. I have one in every vehicle. Remember the GPS systems out there are NOT perfect for big trucks, neither is Google maps, MapQuest, or any other mapping program except P.C Miler or Pro Miles which are both for trucking.Going through a big city is pretty simple. Before you go plan your trip, write it down in letters big enough to see. Don't get in a hurry, relax and don't start swapping lanes. Good luck.

If you go into one of the five boroughs in NYC you have a 80% chance of turning down a street that you have no business going down. NYPD will help you back out of them if you call for help. I have used this service before. They are used to it.

So, I presume, it is advisable to enter NYC with coffee and doughnuts? Keep them hot? Of course... for the nice cops who help you out of a jam.

Yes sir most of the kind officers are willing to help, and some the women in blue are very easy on the eyes.

Rock in the stream wins for me.
    Smooth is fast.
Big following distance - and accept it will be filled.

I’m nervous every time I pack the truck up and head out. It’s normal.

Cities are not all created equal. You will have to learn to use all your tools to figure out how to get to city locations safely.

In most cities, that's simply taking an interstate to an industrial park exit, then driving a couple miles at most to where you need to be.

That said, you should always be careful about driving in cities. As a new driver that will translate into being worried. With experience, you graduate to being concerned and more cautious.

If you still have a fear reaction when city driving after a few months on the road, it might be better for your health to find another job that won't kill you with ulcers.
