About ten years ago, on a miserably cold night, I parked at that J and wandered over to the Outlaw. I was the only person in there. The bartender and I watched Con Air with Nick Gage. Pretty boring movie but having the bar to myself made for an enjoyable evening.

That brings up something I have idly wondered about, from time to time. How many drivers with cats or dogs carry tranquilizers for those times when their pets simply cannot cope with the distractions around the truck, and threaten the driver's ability to get rest?
-
I think if tranquilizers were needed I’d be leaving him home. He did come from a rescue situation and training is a work in progress, but so far no major issues.
-
Understood, and tranquilizers should definitely not be a substitute for training. But no matter how smart an animal is, they still don't have any sense of understanding of driver sleep requirements. I was just curious how many drivers carry tranquilizers for those times when they have to sleep, and their pets simply won't calm down.

Heard something about that last week. I think the few remaining old timers will retain their trucks and CPM. They’ll be slowly forced out within a few years. Wal Mart is officially below bottom feeder level. Even bottom feeder companies assign trucks.
Thought about getting on with Wal Mart Transportation about a decade ago and am glad I didn’t. Back then you had to have a current WMT driver “sponsor” you into the company and then complete a rigorous interview process. I ended up pulling tanks instead and have never looked back.Farmerbob1 Thanks this. -
Met a four million mile driver for Wal Mart several years back when driving for Crete. The guy was real old and just worked picking up pallets all day. Told about how he knew Sam from when the business was small. He had a brand new Peterbilt with leather seats and all the bells and whistles with his name painted on the door. They won’t be doing *that* anymore.Speed_Drums Thanks this.
