And to add insult to injury,in the video next to the accident site there’s “NO PARKING ANYTIME” sign right there, less than 10 feet away.SMDH

That sign looks like it's across from the crash site. Whether or not it applies to the crash site side I can't tell.

When it comes to creative parking you have to be careful where you get creative at. I would suspect the shoulder on the other side was full when he pulled in, and the way he parked would narrow that ramp up a lot.

It applies regardless. Ohio doesn’t allow shoulder parking on ANY on/off ramps! And the truck was parked in front of the sign!

Here's the Google view. Looks like he was definitely on the side where there's a yellow line and "No Parking Anytime" signs. This is just north of Cinci. There's a Pilot at MM 36, about 7 miles north of this rest area. Better to do some creative parking there than on a ramp off the interstate. Unless you want to say that "wull maybe he was plumb out of hours and didn't have 7 minutes to drive to the Pilot."

This truck wasn't parked in the driver's back yard. It was parked in the travel lane. That's just dumb.

I have called companies and truck stops when people park flagrantly improperly, blocking access or exits or proper spaces...I will also hop out and bang on their truck door as loud as I can. I do refrain from plowing into them though. Plowing into them can be counterproductive.

Perhaps this wouldn't happen if the FMCSA makes parking convenient and plentiful instead of mandating ridiculous inflexible HOS and spouting out nonsense like 'plan your hours'. Now the dead guy's family is going to sue the trucking company for some money, and they will get it too with the perverted justice system in this country.

The dead guy hit a stationary object, obviously didn't see where he was going, 'failure to see', 'driving too fast for condition'... (insert your own joke here).

The level of reading comprehension of some in this thread is astounding:

********Troopers say that 36 year old Michigan based semi truck driver Michael Vosburg had parked on the left shoulder of an exit ramp leading into the rest area and was asleep inside the truck when an SUV driven by 39 year old Fei “Peter” Ni left the “marked portion of the exit ramp” and rear ended the parked semi.******

The truck driver simply won a jackpot in this case, there are thousand of trucks parking on shoulders on any given night due to real shortage of parking. Some will argue there is no shortage, that's like arguing gravity doesn't exist to which I would say jump off a cliff.

Some people may disagree with me on this, but I hope the truck driver feels no guilt in this situation. Did he park in an improper parking area? Sure. I fail to understand how someone can defend a person who ran into a stopped vehicle on an off ramp. I don't care if it's trucks parked up on an on/off ramp, trucks parked on the shoulder of an industrial or residential street, or whatever the case. There shouldn't be any excuse for the car drivers, they are still in control of death machines that can crush and kill anf should be held accountable for their mistakes. Truckers should be held to a higher standard, no doubt. But having ANY driver run into a stopped vehicle isn't really acceptable. Let's take away that truck and pretend instead the car driver hit an old granny who was walking her dog around the rest area. Was the granny dumb for walking her dog that close to a travel area? Absolutely. Was the car driver 100% at fault for not taking caution while entering the rest area? Absolutely. And everyone would be singing a different tune if that were the case.
