He may not have been taking a CDL test, but just a drivers license exam. An interpreter is allowed in such a situation when there is no test in the persons needed language.

English is still required to get a CDL. I don't think it's enforced very often, though. I'll leave out the joke about Mexicans and cue balls I heard that one time a Spanish-speaking driver acted like he didn't understand when he cut in line at a job site.

§ 391.11 General qualifications of drivers.

    (2) Can read and speak the English language sufficiently to converse with the general public, to understand highway traffic signs and signals in the English language, to respond to offic

BUT, It would seem by FMCSA rules that the CDL exams can be conducted in another language. So I stand corrected. Not that a State can't be more stringent.
    Under
    §383.133 Test methods.
    (3) Each knowledge test must be valid and reliable so as to ensure that driver applicants possess the knowledge required under §383.111. The knowledge tests may be administered in written form, verbally, or in automated format and can be administered in a foreign language, provided no interpreter is used in administering the test.

When the next one you hear about is 35 is then 35 too young to drive truck, where do you stop with that sort of thinking?

CDL Mills. If he went to one of those pop-up 'learn to drive' miracle trucking schools, he was likely coached on how to pass the written tests and given several practice tests so that he could recognize the wording. Places like that only care that your check clears, not that you actually know how to operate safely or lawfully.

    Have you all forgotten this?
Illinois CDL Scandal Tied To Fatal Crash
    This took down a governor.
I remember all of a sudden seeing all these drivers from Eastern Europe who could hardly speak a word of English. How did they get a CDL?
Even TWIC cards have become fraudulent.

LMAO, I have known a few 15 year olds I would trust more than some that have been driving for 30 years, it depends on the person and has a lot to do with how they got their start, not the age.
