If it weren't a warrantee job, I'd do just that. If I planned on keeping the truck more than another few months, again, I'd do just that.
However, I will ask that the cylinder be checked for scoring.
Taking the plunge. My journey as an O/O.

Picture of liner scoring.
Midwest Trucker and Cat sdp Thank this. -
Also there is no reason they can't combine the warranty work with extra work you pay for out of pocket. -
Might as well do a rebuild now and then you won't have to get rid of the truck
BoostedTeg and Long FLD Thank this. -
Yea really. Why do all this work and then get rid of it. Unless you are going back to a company driver.
Farmerbob1 Thanks this. -

My next truck is probably going to be a Kenworth. There's nothing truly wrong with this truck, it's simply not the truck I want. I was willing to deal with it because I knew the truck as a company driver. If I'm going to stay an o/o, I'm not going to do it in a compromise truck.
Once it's paid off, I will sell it or trade it in for a truck I want. -
Have them do the other 5 on a separate invoice. The warranty company doesn’t even need to know about it. Then you’d have a pretty solid truck.
spyder7723 and Farmerbob1 Thank this. -
Do all of the liners and look at it as preventative maintenance. The truck will be worth a bit more if you trade it in and worth a lot more if you choose to keep running the wheels off it.

Isn't the work being done going to get covered under a new warranty by the shop? If that's the case, I would just have them do the extra work if the price is right. Let the original warranty cover the rest of the truck, and use the shop's for the engine work.
You might not like the interior or amenities of the Freightliner, but it's nothing you can't change. I gutted my Volvo 780 and put in a bar sink and built the cabinets and shelves for more storage. It's like a blank canvas when you get the upper bunk and cabinets out of there on any truck.
