Geez, I just got a call last week from a recruiter for Hub Group, pulling containers as a company driver with their truck.

For a local daycab job, the money didn't sound too bad, but for me it was a sideways move. Once I figured in the extra commute to work, the small difference in money wasn't worth it.

So there must be money in containers for somebody....

    Upinsmoke Thanks this.

I pulled containers before, plus isotanks, but made way more, made them pay exclusive rates when they went back to rail, 1230 mile round trip paid company $3200. It was liquid & Hazmat though.
You could do 2/week due to shippers hours.
He doesnt know how to say, “No.”

I know drivers that earn 70 cents a mile driving someone else’s brand new W-900L
You just have to find the right company and have the right qualifications and skills

    D.Tibbitt and rabbiporkchop Thank this.

That's because the companies don't keep up on their O/O's or they don't keep up on their company trucks. The truck in my avatar now has 453K on it, had 1,600 when that pic was taken, hauls cans 5 days a week in a 7 state area, runs the Rockies on a regular basis, will pass any level 1, PM'd every 17k miles. All of our trucks are washed monthly, sometimes more frequently, all are pm'd between 15k and 20k, drivers are expected to treat it as if it's their own. Tear something up, own up to it or start walking, after you own up to something, you take better care of it. We had 3 O/O's with us, company rides them about repairs as well, the one guy is at the yard every weekend keeping his truck in perfect shape, the other one maybe once a month. The third, well, he's gone, his truck was trash, company told him to fix it or beat it, after 2 months he beat it. They are filing for a lien on his tractor, then plan to sell it for scrap. We have O/O's and company drivers in our area that drive beaters, and those that drive near new trucks, you can tell the companies and drivers that give a #### and the ones that don't, it comes down to the care of the truck.

Times will get worse for truckers.

Waiting for the economy to go bad and/or fuel prices to double. Both of those scenarios might be around the corner in 2020.

The Chicago 1099s won't be affected. They will continue to underbid and regarding the fuel they will just find a way to get that free.

I know right we all got in the wrong business we all should have gone brokers that would solve the issue, I suggest we all drink 10 shots of tequila till it happens or we pass out.
