Why does unloading with reefers take so long?

Hey, I missed that one. Thanks for pointing that out. The staff can always count on you.

 

Maybe they move slower cuz they make so much? Last Thursday I dropped 3 skids ( 90 boxes total )
at Sysco and the fee was $165. 30 minutes total to off load and count.... we load per customer order at the plant.
I've taken in Bins of meat, no breakdown just unload the bins...12 in all, and the charge was $240.
The list can go on and on.... maybe I should have went into Lumping

 

Problem with that theory is sure you are paying $240. How much of that gets to the person doing the labor? I'd be surprised if the average is above $10 hour with the rest going to the labor company providing the service.

 

Than owning a lumper outfit seems better than owning a trucking outfit.

 

We should all try and get the shippers and receivers to pay their load and unloading people by truck. Since we drivers are paid by the mile, they should be paid by how many trucks they load/unload.

 

Err. There's an enormous variance between loads. I have hauled 28 display pallets, or 6k+ cases of product on 28 pallets.

Some of our miles are harder than others, I agree, but not that much harder.
