Got empty right on schedule this morning. Today was 7 days since I picked this load up, and like most of my loads to the eastern time zone, they haven't found me a load by the time I got empty. 7 days and they are just now looking for a load? WTF? I did my part, I kept them informed of my PTA, I delivered when I said I would, but here I sit. Basically, when I sit for a whole day like this waiting for a load, it blows away all the benefits of hard pushing I do all week...it truely gets discouraging. I may have to tell my dispatcher to shove any east coast load unless they come up with a reload right behind it.

I was wondering what they would find up in that area. Last time I delivered a load of scrap around the west side of Michigan, I dead headed all the way to savanna. To do a 3 mile super load. Our division isn’t always the most efficient, but we have to keep the customer happy.

I figured I would either head to Joliet or somewhere in OH, but I expected to head somewhere yesterday for a pick up today given the amount of time they had to secure some sort of load.

Update-messaged Toledo around 8:45 asking if anything was pending for me...she said she is working on loads, which means no, nothing in the works.

I may take this latest disappointment as a sign from above. Finally got a message that I had a load. Went to start the truck to activate the Sam-crappa gateway and after a roll and a half, it quit and now it won't do anything more than click. Since my APU is running and shows 13.9 volts, breakdown said it's probably a bad starter, and said if I can, give it some whacks to see if it'll start so we can get to a shop. It's a royal PITA to get to, but I gave it quite a few whacks from above and below...no joy. He gave me a phone number to call for a road service nearby, but all I get is their voicemail so I left a message and still haven't gotten a call back. Right now I am looking at the cost of either a bus ticket or a cheap plane ticket...I have had about all of this ######## I can stand for one career

Call M&K Volvo. They are close by. Maybe they have a mobile repair guy.

Our breakdown guy got in touch with a Volvo dealer nearby, not sure if it's them or not. They said they can't repair it onsite but could get me started, then I could make it to the dealer and they would work me in sometime tomorrow, maybe... breakdown said bring the starter to the driver, get him started and we will find a shop that can install it today.(By the time they get here, it might be tomorrow wherever I go). Anyway, I lost the load, so once I get back up and running, it'll be another delay finding me another load.

I swear, I didn't have this much downtime in one year sitting at grocery warehouses pulling reefer freight.

It ended up being M&K bringing me the starter and getting it started. He did some basic wiring checks then jumped the starter. He said there is a bad spot on the starter. Since it was gonna be sometime tomorrow before Volvo could get me in, I headed back to the Love's I spent the weekend at in Holland (Zeeland) MI and got myself in line to have this sucker installed. Unfortunately they have already given my load away, so now it all starts over waiting for another load once I am fixed.
