nothing but glorified Cascadia’s, inside and out
hotrod1653 Thanks this. -
I just watched a demo of the new 2025 VNL860. Looks to be about the same size inside, but they got smart and changed the lower bunk into a Murphy bed instead of what they have now. Similar to a Cascadia spec'd with the driver's lounge. Even has a fully functional hood scoop. But it's now a 24v electrical system(using 12v batteries in series). Knowing Volvo's reputation for having electrical gremlins, I bet that new system is gonna be a headache for several model years. Wonder how many electrical fires their gonna have before they get the bugs worked out of it.

We used to order some trucks with that lower bunk/table area. The last Volvo driver on the wing time has his set up that way.

dwells40, hope not dumb twucker, Gearjammin' Penguin and 2 others Thank this.

Yep diamond stitched seats and imitation wood on the dash with different switchgear, otherwise it’s a Cascadia…
On our Western Stars, for now at least, we don’t have hood mirrors which is something I like, and mine fortunately is the old spec so I don’t have the assisted steering and lane keeping or warning. Heck I don’t have adaptive cruise because of the manual - and I’m ok with that, I’m holding onto this thing as long as I can -
If you have a chance take a look inside it’s definitely smaller with less storage space, every manufacturer is giving into the fleets desires to lighten their trucks so we can haul more with our anemic powertrains.
If I wanted a proper sleeper and had money I’d order a daycab and take it to Bolt and have them build a custom 90 inch sleeper for me. -
At least Volvo tried. The “next generation” Cascadia has different headlights and front bumper and that’s it. Along with all the digital dash and stuff that’s been an option on those for years. You can’t tell me that Freightliner spent more than a day in the design room for that thing

The real changes are under the hood and chassis, new plumbing an e compressor and the parking brakes are now electronically operated. Allows them to have more “safety” systems onboard for the ATA and means more failures as they work things out.
Oh yeah, now we get the e-radio standard even without the e-dash so Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will be standard, whoopee… -
electronically operated parking brakes? I don’t foresee that ever being an issue at all…
