This is how they are training the new breed of drivers. Don’t check your mirrors, just rely on the cameras and radar systems.

Not just that, but side scan radar pedestrian warning, which is definitely a safety feature...when it works right. But I can see false warnings for the imaginary invisible pedestrian or a trash can that isn't in the way once it gets out of calibration. And since it's a Freightliner, it will be out of calibration a lot because those side fairings aren't solid enough to endure our 'wonderfully' smooth road surfaces.

I saw a Schneider the other day with no outside mirrors only those funky camera pods hanging off the upper roof sides. Sure, those are usefull for accident reviews if there is a sideswipe or lane change incident since their image can be recorded and saved, but if someone backs in next to you too tight and breaks one off, or a driver damages one from a low hanging tree branch or a bush too close to the road, I bet the repair/replacement cost is a lot higher than a mirror.

The guy that does the bonehead truckers page did a video on the Schneider cameras and he made a valid point too. What if those cameras which are electronically control decide to falter and go out now you have no mirrors at all and you have to get towed and you’ll be lucky if you don’t hit anybody trying to get off the road if they go out on you in the middle of the highway… These companies have people that are literally brain dead and do not think of the implications of what could happen

Never thought about a malfunction, but that's a very real possibility and more likely to happen than a impact incident for sure.
