I feel your pain mate, but what I found on immigrating to France was the sharpest tool in your armoury was a Gallic Shrug with arms outstretched and palms facing the heavens. Things often soon get moving shortly, and the reduction in your blood pressure is wondrous to behold. ;):)

Makes ya appreciate how easy most of our direct customers are. Even the elevator customers.

mayby with multi trucks getting delayed they will be working on Saturday.

I don’t think I’ve pulled one of the newest style aero tarp trailers. Can they be opened from the front without touching the back? I know when I pull a quickdraw or conastoga I try to never open the back flap unless I have to.

Sounds great except for the paid by the hour part. I prefer the freedom of mileage pay.

I was being serious. Paid by the hour drivers are micromanaged. With my job I'm assigned a load and the details are up to me. I decide when to leave and what route to take. It's that personal satisfaction of making a plan with a tight assignment and pulling it off, so-to-speak.
It's not about my time being valuable, it's about me being valuable.

Boardhauler, kylefitzy and Knucklehead Thank this.

On these chameleon conestogas, the only way to get the back latches to release is release the tension off the front. And on these stepdecks, you leave the bungee on that holds the flap in front of the lower deck's tarp until you slide the upper deck onto the mini I-beam and secure it with a pin (that's as big as the pin that holds a hitch into a receiver for a vehicle). That way the 1st lower deck frame doesn't slide back out from under the upper deck frame. These new step conestogas can actually retract the lower tarp all the way onto the upper deck so you can load the entire lower deck without moving the tarp back and forth. Which is how I loaded my load. I have 2 23.5' long pieces and 2 5' x 5' crates so it all fit on the lower deck with room to spare. And fortunately they had me loading facing away from the water so both sides of the tarp ballooned out so there wasn't any fight to open. The only issue I had was getting the back flap secured, but I just did a U-turn back at the staging area so I was facing the wind.

Just found out, no weekend deliveries in San Diego, so it's a Monday morning delivery...so unless my next load is working black Friday, my stellar month just got blown to hell. Please remind me why I stay doing open deck, I stay out longer, gross less money and hurt more than I ever did being a door slammer. What's the point of trying to fool myself into thinking that doing this was a good idea.

Secure the truck. Find a cheap flight home and enjoy your family over the holiday for a change. Deal with the bs when you get back.

I’d be on the line with the man in Rancho to see if there is anything that can be done to keep you moving. Bypass your FM. Most of them are completely useless anyway.

Maybe an otr guy is bringing a local load on Sunday that could drop that load and the yard and grab yours for a Monday delivery.

I was scheduled to go home tomorrow until the first of December but I’m having a pretty good month. I asked boss man if there was maybe one more trip I could cover before I went home for thanksgiving. Sometimes I question my sanity.

They me one more trip alright, a round trip 16’ wide box from tx to ga to ok and back to texas. One preload, one live unload and reload and two drop and hooks.

Should make it back to texas on Wednesday then head for Wichita to grab a double drop stretch and a flip axle to load two supers going to Alberta on the second. I should make it home on thanksgiving morning.

I don’t think I would run nearly the miles if I stopped doing oversize.

Good to know that company drivers aren’t micromanaged. LOL. I’ve heard (and experienced) differently.

My last paycheck (weekly) was 78.58 hours at an average of $43.59 per hour. Hourly pay is the most honest pay. Everything else inevitably slights the driver.

I’d humbly suggest that you should have a little more respect for your own time.
