They don’t have heavy loads on most of the time. 747’s and other wide bodies are rocket ships if they’re lightly or even moderately loaded. But a 747 taking off fully loaded at Denver in 95 degree heat? It’s guaranteed that it’s taking every inch of that 16,000 foot runway they have. Jet engines, heavy loads, and hot and high airports do not mix well

as far as i know, the Dreamlifter uses the same engines as the regular 74. Only Pratt & Whitney’s more specifically. They produce the most thrust vs the RR or GE engines

yes i’m an airplane nerd, forgive me

Sometimes they even land at the wrong airport and get to see just how much runway they need to actually take off. https://simpleflying.com/boeing-747-dreamlifter-wrong-airport/

Well around 10am I finally got the all clear to depart the customer. I guess they found the leak, at least enough to let me leave. Weights ended up bang on for what we were shooting for. Permitted at 14/40/60 and the piece was actually 3k lighter then billed. That would have put me at roughly 38500 on my drives. IMG_7463.png

And I get to the shipper and they need a printed b/l, which I wasn't given. Did SPD just open and hire a bunch of rookie office people? So far, of the last 4 loads, 3 have had paperwork snafu's (@The Block Robert was the only planner who provided me with all the necessary info the 1st try - because it was the only regular customer of the 4). I really need to find a trucking company that has their #### together, since the Wylie takeover, most of these people can't find their head with both hands and specific instructions.

Got Toledo to email me a copy of the b/l, which was fine at this Keen facility. Then it was a fight to check in. It's all automated and in the corner of the B/L there is a small QR code you scan in. The check in kiosk has a camera and a barcode type scanner, neither wanted to pick up the QR code off my phone. When I tried to enlarge it a little, it got a little blury. When I put the screen close to the camera without zooming in, the camera wouldn't focus. I finally ended up taking a screenshot of the email, then crop out the QR code, then enlarge it and it took it. Then, it showed my load on the screen, and it said I wasn't supposed to pu until tomorrow...but it said stand by and they would see if it could be loaded early. So I stood by, and stood by, and stood by. Finally, someone in the office spoke thru the computer speakers and informed me my load was on hold for some reason, so hang loose and they'll see why. Finally 2.5-3 hours after I got there, the load was released and I could head back and load. It's a straightforward skid steer load, 2 10,000 lb track drive units, 2 8500 lb wheel units. Just no accessories (buckets, forks, etc.). Of course, the 2 heavy units are for the 1st stop, so my spreads are almost 37,000 lbs and my drives are 23,000. But I am loaded and rolling. Only made it to northern VA because I-77 was closed for a while for a wreck, but I found out that my 1st stop (Casper) isn't open on Sunday like the load info said, so I have until Monday to make it another 1700 miles, so it'll be an easy trip.
