Easy day

I’m glad it worked out. We seem to do a decent amount out of that customer. Sure would be nice if they would put some actual securement points a few feet off the deck.
this is not a criticism of your securement at all but with the chains being basically flat on the deck, gravity is the only thing keeping that piece upright. And your professional driving of course.
edit to add: I saw my first former Daseke company with the new Tfi/SFI logo style. A WTI truck with paper tags had the blue and red logo on the side. -
Could ssb run a strap with edge protection over the top?

That's the one thing I didn't like about this particular unit, there is only lateral securement, nothing vertical. There are 4 thick pieces of angle iron, one at each corner that are welded to the end frame (sort of like where you would bolt it down to a concrete slab). Maybe if they would have attached some large angle iron as some sort of outrigger across those the width of the trailer, we could at least put a 4" ratchet strap over it. I had thought about using a 2x4 across those and strapping over that, but I couldn't clear my front and back chains. The experience of having hauled 130 x 204 jumbo glass on Moore's double drops is perfect experience for tippy loads like this. Making it thru the curvy section of the WV turnpike and thru Charleston on I-64 was my biggest concern, now that I am almost thru Ohio, my biggest challenge is I-70 between the Ohio line and Indy. If I can make it across that stretch without breaking the trailer in half or flipping it over, I got it made.
there are strict instructions on our load info that forbids us from strapping over the top because it might damage it. The ones I have hauled before were made out of old shipping cans, so you had the normal latch holes on the top corners and you could secure thru those. They also had lift tubes for a forklift forks you could strap thru (if it was on a flatbed with strap winches)But this unit doesn't have either, it has C-channel frames with angled braces to chain thru and only lift plates up on top and they aren't designed as tie down points only lift points.Last edited: Jan 29, 2025
hotrod1653, Lonesome, Knucklehead and 1 other person Thank this. -
I70 west bound from Ohio to Indy is a little better than it has been in a while. They 'fixed' the bad sections by the scale house. Greenfield to Indy is basically brand new concrete road.

City of Wichita needs to give him a key to the city
Knucklehead and hope not dumb twucker Thank this. -
still doesn’t discount the fact that most parts of I-70 are still complete dog ####. I actually took 74 and 71 past Cincinnati to US-35 last week just to avoid itKnucklehead and hope not dumb twucker Thank this.

Came across there this morning. Yeah, they patched the holes, but someone forgot the instruction manual for using a straight edge to make sure the patches were anywhere close to the same level as the road on either side. There were times I was down to 55 to keep from bouncing my building off my deck. Honestly, they just need to pulverize that stretch of interstate back down to gravel, and leave it that way. It would cut down on speeding and tailgating and be easier to maintain

Same could be said about I-40 around and west of Kingman. They’ve fixed some parts but EB 40 by the scale house is still absolutely terrible
