You know the type of driver I'm talking about. They'll say things like:
"Autos are for sissies. I want full control over my truck. What happened to a man's pride in being a man." Etc.

I don't know how have a stick that you move and a third pedal makes you better but ok. Just look at some of the auto vs manual discussions on the forum. There's no shortage of testosterone filled Rambo types shaming the auto drivers.

    What do you guys think?

Drive an auto hauling 3,300 gallons of acid in a 5,500 gallon smooth bore tanker and you'll understand why I dislike auto transmissions and how a manual actually puts you in control of your truck.

Spent a week in an auto. Shifts like a granny and it was the absolute jerkiest POS taking off/shifting up or down through the first couple gears.

Got stuck in a flat parking lot with all 8 drives locked together and had to throw iron to get out. If I had a clutch I'm about 90% certain I could have gotten out barefoot just by being able to feather the power.

Just wanting to inch back under a trailer its like "nope, #### you you're going to move a foot instantly because automatic!"

Super-trucker days ended with Elogs and now requirement that all new drivers must attend a certified CDL school before acquiring a CDL.
Ignore drivers like that; they're dreaming in the past. Their opinions on that subject don't mean anything.

I did exactly that running 48 states and Canada. No problems at all driving a Volvo truck with Volvo automatic transmission.

I can drive a manual. I can drive an auto. Currently drive an auto. I don't really see what difference it makes what type of transmission is in the truck. Every truck you get in, regardless of transmission, you gotta learn how to drive it. You gotta learn how to control it, and you don't accomplish either in one day.

I personally don’t care for them. My limited experience has been similar to that of dave and amodelcat but I won’t bad mouth anyone because they want to drive one. some days I have thought it could be nice but mechanical engines with manual gearboxs have been much more reliable for me.

Enlighten me....why does the transmission impact hauling acid? I bump docks so you'll have to educate me.
