New truck not bad they just become to complicated then old ones . Back in old days you could pick a hammer, few screwdrivers and fix evcerything on your own.
Now truck have way more electronics systems in it, so then more parts truck have , then more you will have to replace in a future . It's math -
I recently bought a 2019 KW T680 with 12 speed auto. It's the first auto I've driven, and I've grown to love it. The only time it's in true automatic is on flat ground and the fuel mileage is great. The rest of the time I have it in manual mode and paddle shifting. They claimed that it anticipates the required gear on grades based on your weight and speed, and if that's true the engineers who told this thing when to shift were morons. At first I tried letting it shift going up grades, but the RPM's would drop down to 900 before it would drop from 12 to 11th gear, and by that point you've lost so much momentum that you can't recover. I wait until the RPM's get to 1,200 or 1,300 then I drop as needed, and it does much better.
New trucks are just like new 4 wheelers. There is so much tech on them that they all have a much shorter useful life than vehicles from 30-40 years ago. My dad just bought a new Lincoln and I drove it for the first time at Christmas. It has amazing gadgets including a HUD on the windshield as well as accident avoidance and auto parking. But the first time it's in a fender bender, I can guarantee it will practically be totaled because of the cost to fix and re-calibrate the tech.Last edited: Dec 31, 2018

Old trucks explode every time you crank them. When they run, they get 3 mpg, break down every hour, and cost hundred of thousands a year to maintain.
New trucks average no less than 15 mpg, never need maintenance, crank every time and cost less than a Kia Sorrento.
OP, unplug your speed sensor so you never increase the odometer miles. Just be ready to explain why you need a new transmission every two weeks. KABOOM!!!Bean Jr. and snowman_w900 Thank this.
