Are there any always-on cameras that can actually record 14+ hour days?

The one thing about the SD card you use, make sure it's a class 10 or better. I used some standard SD cards I had in previous phones and an old GPS. I reformatted and tried to use in my Garmin. It wasn't long before I was having SD card errors. I bought a new Class 10 card that is made for high def 1080p and 4k video and haven't had an issue since. They sell them at Wally World.

And a side note...about the voice control on the camera...it only causes a problem with my Garmin GPS that also has voice control...so when I say 'OK Garmin' both units react. I would love to customize one or the other and use a different command to activate it...like, change the camera to 'you stupid moron' and it would automatically save the current video segment...of course, coming thru places like DC or Atlanta, using that command would have a lot of unnecessary videos save since there is such an overload of morons on the roads around our major cities.

It's a Rexing. I've had it about a year and a half. Unsure what model it is. I think it was around $100. It has a vacuum cup mount. I started having problems with it falling off, so I used some clear RTV to stick it to the windshield. No problems since and when I have to remove it someday, I'll just use a razor blade to scrape off the RTV. I also have the optional GPS unit so it records things like location, speed and unsure what else along with the video.

 

If the dash cam uses an SD card, there will be more limited time recorded than a hard drive for example. Most SD cams will record from 4 to 40 hours depending on the SIZE of the SD card (as others have said.)

If you use a multi-cam DVR system them you could record up to 6 months before it over-writes.

Also, no need to start your own site (too much work.) Just start your own YouTube channel for free. LOTS of drivers making some spare $$$ doing YT channels these days.

My dash came records about 3 hours of video and then overwrites anything from 3 hours ago. Unless it was video that was locked or it tripped the g sensor.

 

I was thinking of setting up a Home Security type camera in my truck. Just record to my local Mac hard drive (or if you have the bandwidth, to the cloud) and then pull out the clips from it and delete the trash.

for me I’d be using Apple Homekit and a single window mounted camera but I’m sure Google or Amazon has something similar.

I’d also set it up to record when I drop my truck off at a dealership for repairs (motion detected) as I never trust those folks being in my bedroom.

 

I use a streetguardian dashcam that records about five hours in three minute clips

it has a button to save the previous three minute clip and the current three minute clip

I haven’t had any safety issues hitting the button within three minutes of seeing a tard manouver to save the clip.

I wouldn’t recommend that particular dashcam
It’s a giant pain to download the files

Id find one that is easy to Bluetooth it to your phone .

 

Do you mean you think they'll do something nasty like if they're messing with your APU unit or something get it dirty back there with grease? Or do you mean theft issues?

I always took my valuables out of the truck when they worked on it, which was only my laptop. I didn't really worry about the food/clothes I had back there. With my pillows I would put them in clean trashbags so that they wouldn't get dirty when they did stuff like work on my APU unit, just in case they had to get back there for whatever reason to mess with the control panel. I actually also put trash bags on the top half of my bed so that my sheets were covered, again in case they had to get to the control panel when doing APU work.
