Hi, everyone! I'm currently hauling a CAT escavator my gross weight is 86k and change lbs and I'm a little oversize on the sides. Got permits for everything. And I have to cross border latrol checkpoint in Texas on I-10 Eastbound. I wonder how do they go about oversize/overweight loads. I know the drill with dry van or reefer, they just ask me about my citizenship and I would go about my day. Wonder if this is any different for oversize/overweight since I'm new for the open deck? Been in trucking for 11 years now. Thanks in advance.

    Bud A. Thanks this.

Unless the cab of the unit has some illegals hiding in it that snuck in when you weren't looking, it shouldn't be any different than any other vehicle.

You will be fine. You are not the first oversize load to pass through the checkpoint. They know what to do.

As long as the dog doesn't alert on anything shouldn't be a problem....

Are you alone in the truck?

Except for the voices in my head, yes.

Well, I can't check their citizenship. Have a nice day.

    Actual conversation, one boring day.

Running team, coming back from CA, co driver experienced, said lets eat in Juarez. We crossed, ate, started back.
Coming onto US end, he says: I'll do the talking... Me cherry to borders thought: "Fine"...
So he steps ahead and says: "How ya doing to the gendarme... Gendarme nods and looks at me. I stop and look at him...
After a moment he says: "Say something." I replied : "Something". He said " Go ahead".
Back then all they wanted was to hear your American voice. Early 58..

    Shouldn’t have said anything.

Later on after you sit a while you can talk, if they ask why, say “He told me to to say another word or I’d be walking.”

I take it your not actually crossing the US/ Mexico border and its just the usual US border patrol checking for illegals? on the I -10. Their job is to check for illegals so you should be fine after they've allowed the sniffer dogs to check your truck.
