Bringing my dog OTR: What to bring/What to expect?

It's not the ideal environment for a dog but then again it's not ideal for humans either. Prisoners have more room to work with than an OTR driver. If you take care of him I see nothing wrong with it and he'd probably enjoy being around you.

 

That has happened on occasion too. I had a load recently got to the front gate, NO DOGS uhoh. Went on in and dropped trailer and asked if I could go get lunch. No problem. Came back later and hooked and booked, they were never the wiser; they didn't ask, I didn't tell.

Another time at a place just a drop and hook at my old company, this customer was very strict, had to leave Abby in the guard shack while I went in and changed trailers, no more than 20 minutes. The guard was happy to have the distraction in his day.

 

Winter is here, bring towels so after you take him to do his business, you got one thing to dry him off with

 

People like that are not worth getting worked up over, you need not explain anything to anyone, I'd have my dog with me, but my company says he's to big and on the aggressive bread

 

Yo,yo,yo, blackbread ease up man..no need to name call or explain your life story surrounding your dog...I get it, people LOVE their animals, I love mine too..But I would never drive around my doggy in the cab of my truck, just like Sik_life said, it is horrible for people to "live"in a cab let alone a big 50lb dog..We all have opinions and yours is no more valuable than mine or vise versa..So yea.leave Rover at the house..

 

Here's a million dollar ideal for the taking,

Instead of humans using a leash to keep their dog nearby,,,,, they both wear a collar, and if they get too far apart, BOTH their heads explode (both, as in the human's and the canine's)

Go to the nearest animal shelter and clean up doo doo for the rest of the day.

I can't BELIEVE you had the nerve. Tsk tsk.

I'd love to have a dog with us - but the company doesn't allow it. Just another little sacrifice that non-truck drivers don't understand.

We were able to socialize two very badly abused dogs. (One at a time) First was a Chihuahua-Beagle mix who would cower around any one. Now she's confident, outgoing and a real character. She got her one-on-one gentle time with Mr. E and I at first, then we slowly introduced her to people and other dogs. When her arthritis started acting up she retired at home with our daughter in comfort and spoilage. We're still working the 4 year old pitbull. He was two when we got him, was starved and had a badly healed broken back. He is still wary of men other than Mr. E and we're still trying to normalize his social skills around other dogs. His fear of people is slowly getting better, but we don't ever think he'll ever truly 'normalize'. Our pit mix was on his last day in the local shelter before being put down. Now he knows love, football, picnics in the grass and bacon (!).

It just proves your point, Sik. A truck is a heck of a lot better than where my dogs came from. There's nothing more grateful than a rescued dog. Unless it's the driver who gets lucky enough to ride with him.

 

Maybe a little dog is ok in a truck, I dont know, I wouldn't do it.dogs need to run around and take dumps far from where they sleep.Your in a truck, its a job not a cross country sight seeing tour..I like my dog so much, I refuse to "live" in a truck so I got a gig to be home everyday to see him...Who long before your ride stinks to high heaven ??
