Many companies don't force Canada runs, so will hire him. He won't be dispatched to Canada.

You're past is well enough behind you to where it will not hinder you from getting your license. There are guys that have drinking and alcohol and have longevity in the industry. I'd apply to every single company that's hiring. Just make sure you answer the questions as they're asked on the application. For example, if the application asks have you had a DUI in the last 5 years, answer that question as it is and don't volunteer any additional info unless asked. They only asked about the last 5 years, not over the lifetime.

While it does not impact the OP in this case, it is important that an individual check their state laws on multiple alcohol offenses.

    As an example:
In Michigan, a person cannot obtain a CDL with a suspension of driving privileges within the previous 36 months.
In Ohio, a person is lifetime prohibited from obtaining a CDL if 2 alcohol driving offenses in any motor vehicle.

    Best wishes for the OP.

Someone in Ohio would have to change their address to another state in that case.

Find the job that will hire you before you quit your current job or decide about going to CDL school. CDL schools will ALWAYS say now is the time to get training, whether trucking companies are hiring everyone in school or nobody with less than 10 years experience.

Most people entering trucking go to school AND THEN start looking for a job. I recommend EVERYONE find the job first and then go to the CDL school that makes sense for THE job you are getting after school. You want to avoid borrowing money for CDL school and then not being able to get a reasonable trucking job. Being broke now is bad, being more broke with more bills and no job is much worse. Most CDL schools are 3 weeks and not long enough for you to do a properly research which company to work for. With multiple DUIs you are limited to fewer number of employers. If anyone has ANYTHING in their background which will limits their "hireability" it is especially important to find the job first before going to CDL school and taking on more debt.

One of the biggest reasons why MOST newbies stay in the industry less than 12 months is lack of time off. Like you, I was single and ready to stay out for work. I quit after 1 year because of the isolation in trucking. This was before cellphones, podcasts, satellite radio, etc. I came back into trucking after a year off and brought my dog and it was much better. It's too easy to discount "getting home" until you never get home. I worked 10 months and never went home about 2 years ago. The unique conditions of trucking during Covid era and customer treatment of truck drivers caused me to retire from driving in 2021. You should plan on taking a few days out of the truck at a nice hotel, casino, etc every month or two as a sanity break. If not, trucking can be almost a prison sentence.
