    I'm still waiting on Midwest's hour to mile ratio numbers. Ridge is busy getting one of his drivers prosecuted on grounds of moral turpitude.

    Sorry 12.3% not that it makes a huge difference to the overall picture. The majority of my trucks would be lucky to do more than 400 miles in a week. A couple sub 150. Fuel isn't a big component of my costs...

    At that amount that means they are still getting 12 to 14 mpg. How do you do that?

    I would be glad if I could average an honest 5 mpg. I can get it with a flat, but not quite with a van or reefer.

    When did I say you were smoking drugs? Don't be a sensitive Suzy.

    It goes without saying, operations costs are going to vary. There is no perfect way of measuring down to the penny per mile what those are going to be from month to month. There are ranges that will vary on a lot of different factors, truck & trailer payments notwithstanding.

    A lot of these guys that give some low ball, per mile, operations costs don't have a truck payment or a trailer payment. If they do, they're not that high of an overall %. Not only that, a lot of them don't include payroll in those numbers.

    Having worked in the inside of a mid-sized company, I was privy to their operations costs. I can tell you that their average cost of operation was in the $1.60's a mile. That included everything, including a large staff, buildings, employees, etc.

    I have a $1,765 a month truck & $475 trailer payment. My operations per ALL miles (just under 8k miles) cost(s) in May were:

    $0.43 Fixed
    $0.65 Variable
    $0.47 Payroll
    $1.55 CPM operations cost.

    Revenue Per All Miles:
    $2.37

    Net profit after S-Corp tax 31.34%
    $0.74 ALL miles.

    That's about as easy and simple as I can put it.

    In addition, remove the truck & trailer payment and my bottom line would be even better.

    @Scooter Jones your numbers and costs are a very sensible real world breakdown. As you said you worked for a mid size company and there costs were in the 1.60’s exactly where mine are, as are most people running anything more than probably 10 trucks.

    No feathers ruffled, if you knew me personally you’d understand I have particularly thick skin.

    I wish everyone the best of luck in what is an “interesting” market.

    @Liquidforce . . . Son . . .

    @Dave_in_AZ - Uncle . . .

    Come on now.

    Uncle and I have a very different business situation to Sons.

    What Son has achieved in a very short span, in a market most would balk at - is very impressive. A lot of it reflects on his screen name.

    @Scooter Jones and @Liquidforce have solid numbers.

    A lot of operational numbers thrown out on TTR are skewed by ego, ignorance, and conformational bias.

    Duct tape, chrome, and Benjamin’s. They all pass and are passed daily. Research and keep an open mind.

    Good discussion kids.

    If you don't count the truck and trailer payment because it is paid off, what happens, when you need to replace it.
    Mine has been paid off for years, but that doesn't mean it pulls out of the shop any cheaper than a brand new one.

    I usually get 14 to 16 mpg .... its due to careful planning, experience and expertise. ....... but I get a little bit less going back up the hill

    Nope. No money here. Own authority or bust.

    Then you have the research bug. If anyone can read through that pile of drivel and live to tell the tale, you must have tenacity.

    Oops - yes. Bugger. I do post figures.

    True. Laziness as you did warn me, was the biggest hurdle.

    Now - there’s the goal. But be warned - he keeps uprooting the goal posts in the dead of night and marching them further down the field.
