On the Garmin, the USB 2.0 plug is on the hardware that plugs into the data port of the truck. The phone or tablet only provides the driver interface, location services, and stores/backs up the data.

Yes, our logs are on a Company Smart phone.Mine is clipped on the cargo netting above my head.I can Glance up and see hours.of service. No fumbling with buttons or anything to be construed as texting.I think they're going to put "motion detectors" in phones ,where you can only call 911 if your vehicle is moving starting Jan 2020.Ok...so I Made this up,but,It wouldn't surprise me.

No. You can work as long as your body will let you. You just can’t drive a commercial vehicle if you go past 14.

It’s not the fine you need to be worried about. That’s points on your cdl and like 10csa points with a factor of 3... so like 30 points. Most likely that driver will be uninsurable for 3 years. Don’t just pay the ticket. Get it reduced to a lesser offense. Also the first incident is supposed to be a 30 day suspension of the cdl. Not a small thing. It’s reckless and ####ing stupid. Were it my employee, they’d be fighting it and then once my csa was covered, they’d be unemployed.

Lab work and Lepton1 Thank this.

    Correct. They are DRIVING RULES.

You cannot drive after the 8th hour until you take 30 consecutive off duty or sleeper.

You cannot drive after 11 hours until... you cannot drive after 14 hours until...

They are driving rules. So if I work for 20 hours I’m fine, but not fine to drive. It’s driving rules. Unloading a truck isn’t a safety sensitive function. Driving is.

Not exactly. It is listed as a "serious violation" in table 2 of §383.51, and carries a 60 day DQ for the 2nd offense in 3 years, and a 120 day DQ for 3rd and subsequent offenses. If you've already got another serious violation, such as speeding 15+, reckless driving, or improper lane change, then you'll be parked for a while on a 1st cell phone offense...but then it isn't really your 1st offense.

The charge cable has a usb end on it. That is used for data transfer when not conected to power.

The charger cable has the wrong end for connecting to a USB drive, which is part of the spec. A USB drive has the same connector as the power cable you plug in.

?? The power cable is a standard usb 2.0 on one end that plugs into a charge block or laptop, that can be used for power or transfer. Same thing with your phones power cord ect...
