It was a level 2 inspection. Im still trying to figure out how they measured 5'9'' front overhang on a Chrysler 200 on a Cottrell 5309.

    Jon,

How far out was the front extentions? Any distance over 53' will be considered overhang on a high mount. They don't just measure from the end of the ramp or decking. So if he had 4 units across the top it could have easily been 5 or more foot of ovethang.

@brian991219 funny why on the inspection sheet it reads allowed 3’ max.
As far as I know no overhang is allowed legally on a high mount?
It’s like like they applied the law for stinger steered?
But I guess it doesn’t matter because even if it was a stinger I believe 5.9 feet would still be to much?

    brian991219 Thanks this.

Ah that would explain it. Thank you. I’m not sure how far out they were, but it sounds like that was the issue.

    Dennis,

Maybe they quoted the permissible for a traditional flatbed with a non-divisible load? Many states allow some overhang for one piece loads just not for cars unless a stinger.

    Interesting
I wasn’t even thinking about non divisible loads.
I guess I can’t think beyond car hauling lol

Some of these replies cause a person to not want to ask any questions. Maybe next time you have a question put an asterisk beside it ***only those with helpful advice respond, those who have never made a mistake please refrain*** I think some of your biggest critics seem to forget how much less about trucking they knew when they started. I am only 32+ years in and I know a whole lot more today than I did in 1987, but I am still learning something new all the time. Maybe next time PM @brian991219 as he knows more about the specific industry regs than most of us and is always willing to help.
