Really, I bet they have more people in that department than they do any other.

Well - I'll admit to not having read the entire thread.

Answering just the question - I've always given 1-2 weeks notice to employers of my intention to desist employment. It's served me well in 30 working years. Especially when I've returned the odd time to previous employment, or they've called for reference to a booster job.

I find blaming others, employers included, or berating them when you agreed to work for them, or agreed to have them pay your training and then quit them . . . well. Just do the right thing.

No offense, just my 2c. Do as you will.

I can't imagine a company that has a driver wanting to leave driving their truck for two more weeks.

You just go on hometime and collect your last check. By the time someone at Swift gets around to calling to check on you, you're already getting checks at your new company.

that is correct, once you give your notice, sometimes they tell you to clean out your truck...NOW.....as they know you no longer wish to work for them.
another thing too, schedule your vacation week, take that week, and call them and say "i quit".....at least, you got that vacation pay/time, you worked for.

When I quit, I turned my truck into the nearest terminal (Laredo for me) and called my dm on the way to let him know. I was a lease operator though. Contact your DM and let them know.

Twice when I’ve quit a place, they told me don’t bother with giving notice.

Most trucking companies are little babies like that. They cry and beg for drivers, treat them like crap, essentially FIRE them when they do the right thing by giving notice. Would I give a notice in a office job? I dunno, maybe. Never had one. Would I in trucking? Nope, never have. When the attitude to the driver is "screw them" then it's that same sentiment back.

I have never given a 2 week notice and never regretted it. I've never been given 2 weeks notice to find a job before losing the one I had, so I won't extend the courtesy to my employer.

If it's good enough for me (not giving notice) it's good enough for them.
