Even though I can't do over 65+, I still don't think having a limit will solve anything, just cause more problems. Idc if they can go faster, just stay off my side

I run paper for a variety of reasons. I won't ever be buying a elog device. Not in my budget :p

I left a carrier after 7 years because they told me I'd have to buy one of those fing things. I'll turn my rig into an RV and use it to pull the horses around and go change tires @ Walmart before I install a box in my truck. These ATA goons crack me up...if "speed" is such a big factor in crashes, and if elogs are the end-all-be-all of safety, then THEIR trucks (which are already speed limited and elog equipped) would NEVER be involved in any wrecks. They are, though, which only illustrates the amount of bull excrement flowing from these fools at the ATA. THEY made the business decision to limit speeds and run elogs, both of which placed THEIR companies at a competitive disadvantage. Rather than admitting their mistake and revising their business model accordingly, they want to force THEIR bad business decision onto the rest of the industry to "level the playing field". Hell, why not level the playing field by limiting the number of trucks a carrier may operate to 50 trucks? Sounds reasonable to me! If "safety" is your concern, why not push for TRAINING standards? Instead, the ATA wants to allow permit holders to operate without a licensed driver in the jump seat and lower the OTR age to 18. Sorry, once you start advocating those things you lose whatever credibility you THOUGHT you might have had on the safety issue while pushing for elogs and speed limiters.

The ATA is a joke, and ought to be laughed right off of K street. Unfortunately this administration (also a joke...a really BAD joke...but that's another topic for another thread in another password-protected area of the forums...) takes them seriously.

Well, even the ATA said that there was not a real move in government to do the speed limiter thing. The general mood in congress does not feel the need to slow anyone down. They are not counting on that any time soon. But they are sure chomping at the bit to have the E-logs implemented, and hope it gets out later this month. At least they didn't use the safety argument. Might have been a Freudian slip, but they were clear that they want E-logs to "level" the playing field for their member carriers.

Is this ridiculous bs gonna apply to ALL trucks or just outside the radius as usual? I'll go local or just walk when this goes into effect...

“If you’re really hot to get this rule out because your competition doesn’t have ELDs, trust us, it’s going to happen—just be patient for few more weeks,” Osiecki emphasized.

This is a really stupid statement (goes without saying). What about a "not-for-hire" company like mine that has only 4 trucks and we only go pick up & haul product from our vendors back to our main facility? No log books (we stay within 100 air miles and go home daily). We aren't competing with any trucking companies.

Are they talking about OTR companies only, or everyone including logging, local p&d, not-for-hire, etc.?

The question you have to ask yourself is:
Am I subject to the FMCSA rules?
Am I required to do logs?

If not, then you are not involved.

Yes I am subject to FMCSA rules
No I don't have to fill out logbook due to being local (within 100 air miles).

Ok, that answers my question...duh on me.

    Thanks,
    JW

For the longest time the big push for ELDs argument was for Safety. Funny now they are angling it toward "leveling the playing field" lol. Swift CEO said they are having problems competing with paper loggers who go 100 extra miles per day. Paper loggers everywhere are offended by that because we are held to the same high standard of safety and compliance as Eloggers.
