It is a tax right off though you make money still just seeing that kind of money is scary for any of us who buy a truck, but the money you make is still good as long as you take care of the truck.

Update us a the beginning of the year with net total income after everything curious to see income reality. I'd not spend any money at a shop charging $200 I'd call around until I find the best shop but not over priced.

As a of right now I will net approximately $115 , take $23K for estimated quarterly tax payments, that leaves you with $92K. I know company drivers here making $110K.

I was gonna ask who makes more money at the end of the day. Company drivers or O/O’s. I guess I have my answer now. Makes being an O/O even less appealing, especially those with families

In my opinion it’s just not worth the headaches, stress, and cost of being an O/O anymore. Some people say “I
Like the freedom” F the freedom!

You definitely need to have good economic sense to be an owner op and keep expenses under control…it can be done but it definitely has gotten much more difficult due to rising costs

What’s the freedom if you can’t enjoy the fruits of your labor anymore..

That was the biggest part of why I sold my truck and went back to being a company pack mule. If it breaks down, I either get paid to sit in a company paid motel room or they pay to transport me to another truck. And this is long before fuel topped $2.50/gal.

I'll have to work this truck awhile to get some return on investment if I don't make enough money I might park it and go company driver again. Hopefully things get better soon in the economy. Rates need to go up to keep up with costs. @runningman0661 who do you recommend for taxes btw?

It is definitely a much better option to be a W2 company driver in today’s economy. If my truck breaks down or needs repairs, I don’t need to spend a dime out of my own pocket. You still have full benefits and a 401k as a company driver. A much less stressful experience. I’ve done some research on leasing/buying a truck through FCC or elsewhere but it’s just not worth it for me.
