People have no idea how hard that is on the trailer dropping them that low and then having the yard dogs just slam into the front to pick them up. And then drop them onto the ground again when they pull out. But then the same people who drop trailers that low will be the first ones to cry when the landing gear is hard to crank up and down.

if trailer is loaded, i dolly down until the landing gear is about an inch off the ground (basically enough to stick my fingers under it), then dump my air and pull out. If i’m empty, all i do is dolly down until the gear touches the surface, then i give it a couple more cranks and pull out. Never had a problem getting back under said trailers with this method

Yeah it's also not good on the trailer or my frame to use it as a wedge to get some leverage cranking that landing gear the gear was binded up so bad it wouldn't budge so I had to lower air bags and use my frame to lift it a little.

Friend and Long FLD Thank this.

I dropped my empty and was picking up a loaded one but yeah the last guy definitely dropped it without caring.

its always to high or to low there. TBH i think its the uneven ground then trailer was moved they really need to pave it.

I think the ground has a lot to do with it there as well. Wherever that guy dropped his empty, the landscape was vastly different than where it was put back loaded. Also when I did LTL years back one of their flavor-of-the-month gripe sessions was us dropping trailer with the landing gear handle still in “high”. If drivers or yard dogs would just blast out from under them, it would cause the landing gear itself to “ratchet down”, resulting in low trailers. Idk the validity of this, or if it was just another excuse for one of the 8 safety people to justify their job.

they should at least put more gravel down and regrade it. You #### near have to break out the waders there if it rains

There’s barely any leg exposed on that dropped trailer. So unless the back of the truck was in a hole and there was a hump right under the legs it’s just someone being lazy.

Crete is almost worse than Kawasaki at this point. People are just spinning and digging out the gravel in front of the concrete. I dropped there a few weeks ago and when looking for an empty there was a company truck that couldn’t get under the empty he was trying for because the holes were so bad. I had to throw my full locker in on the back axle to get under it, figured if I didn’t that the holes would just get dug out worse.
