Going to put Solar Panels on the roof or just plug into the grid?

I was kind of thinking of a combo. I haven’t run any numbers yet but put solar panels up on the roofs to charge a Battery Wall to use while I’m home but once the batteries are topped off, then sell the extra power back to the Power Company. I know you don’t make a lot of money with that setup but almost 100% of what is generated would be sold vs used. Might add up a bit quicker than someone consuming power daily and recharging batteries daily.

Just tossing ideas around in my head.

Tennessee I saw your other post about the solar I don't recommend home solar my dad got scammed with that stuff it's only good for keeping batteries charged but you have to install a inverter.

Ya, I’d do direct. Just buy the equipment up front and deal directly with the Coop providing power.

No need to “rent/lease” your roof to some 3rd Party company. My second Father-in-law got some questionable setup like that. Never heard how it all turned out.

Ya, I keep eyeing TN myself when I drive through. There are a few river/lakes I could see retirement. But also looking at Nebraska too.

Not to mention all the safety hoops you have to jump thru to tie into the grid. An automatic shut off when there is a power outage in the area so your solar isn't feeding power back into the system when a line is down or being repaired, especially when you're on the road and nobody is around to make sure it disconnected itself.

    Good Point.

I worked at an Electric Coop for awhile and one of the guys there had an Educational Setup in a big trailer that he would take around doing safety demos to schools, fairs, work places… was a fairly entertaining program.

He would do a bit about that topic of backup generators running during power outages feeding back onto the grid. Those had manual switches to toggle between one or the other but you had to switch it manually.

I didn’t think about the solar panels feeding back onto the grid… especially if I’m OTR.

    Thanks

I feel like I'm working for the pumpkin again. I used to haul stuff just like this all the time when I was on one of Schneider's Georgia Pacific accounts Screenshot_20251015_113309_Gallery.jpg
